Its the art house equivalent of a dump. There's two movies next week and two movies the following week, so the Oscar quartet should have minimal drops or possible bumps the next several weeks. Yogi Bear will enjoy having the market to itself. Its really strange there are no kids/family movies opening till Gnomeo and Juliet or Justin Bieber: Never Say Never on Feb 11th. And even those will have the market to themselves till March.

Winner: Chris Colfer - Glee
Alternate: Eric Stonestreet - Modern Family
I think David Strathairn might be at an advantage given he's the only nominee here from a TV movie. But I think that Colfer makes the most sense, as he's Glee's best shot at a win. My own vote would probably go to Stonestreet. I'd love to vote for Colfer, but he - like a lot of the cast of Glee - is occasionally hindered by the uneven writing.

Supporting Actress - All TV
Winner: Sofia Vergara - Modern Family
Alternate: Jane Lynch - Glee
Like Colfer, Vergara has been a huge breakout star. Lynch should have won last year, and could take this. I'd vote for Sofia because of the Halloween episode and her hilarious "proper American accent."

Alternate: Romola Garai - Emma
Danes will have this easy squeezie. I'm sure Jennifer Love Hewitt is very happy about her nomination playing a hooker.

Allow me a tangent: both Bening and Moore should be supporting as just about everyone in Kids has the same amount of screentime. Personally, I'd give it to Emma Stone. But whatevs.

Canadian Scream 4 Full Trailer

Happy 3 months to go everybody!

With that in mind, the Canadian Scream 4 trailer is now online. A lot of people have had difficulty playing it, and it was pretty choppy (no pun intended) for me. That being said, what I saw looked and sounded great. The dialogue has a nice snap to it, and I was surprised just how comedic it looked. The Dewey/Gale "it is?" bit, in particular, was hilarious. I'd say the first third of the trailer almost made it look like a comedy. My fave bit of the entire thing was Hayden naming every horror remake she could. She named some even I forgot. Looks like the big focus of the film will be the endless amount of remakes in recent years. With this arrival, the American full trailer shouldn't be far off. If this one hits YouTube or has an easier to play version, I'll post it.

One more thing: RED. RIGHT. HAND.

Box: I eat my words over Black Swan's performance

I didn't have any catchy titles relating to The Green Hornet or The Dilemma. Remember when January was the dumping ground for all-out duds or okay teen movies that did modest business? It seems we've replaced them with mixed reviewed semi-blockbusters. Black Swan continues to be the "it movie", even hitting #2 on Tuesday. It will be in 2000 theatres this weekend, perfect timing for the Golden Globes and Oscar noms in less than two weeks. In the end, it will cross $100 million. I think The King's Speech, which is also getting a nice theatre count increase this weekend, has a slim shot at crossing the century mark given its expansion and great word of mouth. A big help to both (as well as True Grit and The Fighter) is that every weekend up until the second in February will only see two movies released. Despite the terrific performance of the awards fare, Rabbit Hole is struggling in limited. Even with a boost from Nicole's inevitable Oscar nom, it won't cross $3 million.

Scream 4 Screened for Some Unknown Reason...

...or did it?

I've held off on posting this - shocker, I know! - but Scream 4 actually screened in Pittsburg this past Thursday. Maybe? I was going to hold off posting anything about the film till Saturday (3 months to go!) when by then I was hoping to report that someone from the cast will be working the red carpet at the Golden Globes. *fingers crossed* Guess I couldn't wait. Anywho, yes, according to many reliable sources the entire film was shown to an audience. The main question many have is why exactly this happened? Theories point to them testing the film with different endings to see which one plays best. To buy that you have to believe that they filmed completely different ending sequences and its never been reported anywhere that they did. Other possible reasons are that they thought the contracts they had present would be enough to keep everyone honest or that they feel they have a strong enough product that they want to use this to build buzz. As every website that has carried this news will say, why would you screen a film this early when one of the biggest parts of the film is the whodunit angle?

Now, if you visit the film's IMDB message boards - and I strongly recommend you don't - you'll find a few people claiming that they were part of the audience. Perfectly enough, they say they won't spoil anything because of the strict confidentiality agreements they signed. Or that they weren't there. Whichever.

All that leads to this: just what did the more reliable seeming early reviews say about the film. A few recurring snippets:

+far and away the most violent of the series, lots of brutal kills
+the opening sequence is probably the most violent part of the film and is really clever and funny (SPOILER: it involes ALL six girls that were announced late in production)
+easily better than Scream 3, some say better than Scream 2 if they thought it was lesser than the first film
+Neve and Courteney are great but David seemed a bit off
+Gale is back to her old self (YES PLEASE!)
+the new cast is very good, with one exception - they seem to be leaning towards Hayden Panettiere or Marielle Jaffe - no one would confirm who it is
+the film was finished with the exception of a few effects shots and no ending credits
+the ending plays out too long
+it ran about 110 minutes

Regarding the ending being too long, I remember certain adults telling me this about the first film when I was just a thirteen year old Darren. But they were wrong! So whatevs.

So that is that. It could also be that the film didn't screen at all and Dimension is sending out fake information to throw people off.

Also, its been announced that Anchor Bay/Starz will be releasing the film on DVD/Bluray. Since The Weinstein Company and Dimension no longer have a home video distributor, they've been letting Sony release most of their stuff for about the past year. Its also believed that Anchor Bay will also be releasing the original trilogy on Bluray at some point this year. YES PLEASE.
