As expected, reviews are poor for MIB International. Hemsworth has fared poorly outside his Marvel films, and add this to the long line of sequels/reboots that never should have been made. Dark Phoenix is looking to be an outright bomb as well, reportedly losing the studio nearly $100m. Shaft also opens, and buzz feels almost non-existent. It probably won't even do what the 2000 installment did unadjusted. Late Night expands wide after a solid limited performance last weekend. Sadly, comedies are dead and original films are struggling. I guess that also goes for The Dead Don't Die, which opens just under the wide threshold at about 500+ locations. The Avengers, John Wick and Aladdin may be the only genuine winners so far this summer, with good performances by Pokemon, Rocketman and Ma. Thank goodness Toy Story 4 arrives next weekend. Save us, Buzz and Woody.
