Toy Story 4 comes in to save the first half of summer, ahead of a promising July. I suspect the performance will fall squarely between Toy Story 3 and The Incredibles 2. Also opening is the remake of Child's Play with Aubrey Plaza. Buzz and marketing feel light, even if those Toy Story parody posters are great. With bigger and perhaps better horror offerings in the coming weeks, I don't see Chucky getting much play. But hey, this genre has always surprised. Lastly is Luc Besson's Anna. With original films struggling (thank goodness this isn't a comedy!), I doubt this breaks out of low to mid single digits. Men In Black International did exactly what I expected last weekend, and despite the terrible reviews it might just be saved by overseas grosses. Shaft, however, was a total non-starter. The movie will gross only slightly more than what the 2000 version opened with.
