Globedix

ANIMATED FEATURE
Brave - Frankenweenie - ParaNorman - Rise of the Guardians - Wreck-It Ralph
Alt: The Lorax (???)
Probably bad that I could barely think of a 6th movie.  Something foreign and obscure will probably knock out one of my selected five.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Amour - Holy Motors - The Intouchables - A Royal Affair - Rust and Bone
Alt: The Kid With a Bike
Quick, Darren, name five foreign movies that were released this year!

ORIGINAL SCORE
Anna Karenina - Argo - Life of Pi - Lincoln - The Master
Alt: Cloud Atlas
Any of the potential Film nominees could show up here, or maybe even The Hobbit.

ORIGINAL SONG
"Learn Me Right" - Brave
"Safe and Sound" - The Hunger Games
"Suddenly" - Les Miserables
"Skyfall" - Skyfall
"Breath of Life" - Snow White and the Huntsman
Alt: "Who Did That To You" - Django Unchained
Stick with the most popular artists in the most popular movies.  Adele is locked and loaded here.  Throw in Taylor Swift, Florence + The Machine, Mumford and Sons and Les Mis.  MORE STARS!

SCREENPLAY
Argo - Django Unchained - Lincoln - Silver Linings Playbook - Zero Dark Thirty
Alt: Moonrise Kindgom
I switched out Moonrise for Django because they love Tarantino.  The rest of the lineup should be safe.  I get the feeling they probably hated The Master, so I doubt it gets any love beyond the actors and score.

DIRECTOR
Ben Affleck - Argo
Kathryn Bigelow - Zero Dark Thirty
Tom Hooper - Les Miserables
Steven Spielberg - Lincoln
Quentin Tarantino - Django Unchained
Alt: David O. Russell - Silver Linings Playbook
With Ang Lee as another strong alternative.

SUPPORTING ACTOR
Robert De Niro - Silver Linings Playbook
Leonardo DiCaprio - Django Unchained
Philip Seymour Hoffman - The Master
Tommy Lee Jones - Lincoln
Matthew McConaughey - Magic Mike
Alt: Alan Arkin - Argo
Arkin won the Oscar 6 years ago without a Globe nod, which means I should probably put him in.  They have a tendency to right their wrongs.  If Javier Bardem gets in, is he really getting nominated for an Oscar for Skyfall???

SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Sally Field - Lincoln
Anne Hathaway - Les Miserables
Helen Hunt - The Sessions
Nicole Kidman - The Paperboy
Maggie Smith - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Alt: Amy Adams - The Master
Hmmm, I'm starting to think this is the Oscar lineup.  The problem is the Globes and SAG almost NEVER match in this category, which is why I should knockout someone for Adams.  Barks or Seyfried from Les Mis have the best chance here at of all the precursors.  Kidman gets in on star-fucking, though word from the smart people is that she actually deserves it.  Terrible movie be damned!  Emma Watson is another star-fuck nomination waiting to happen.

ACTOR - COMEDY/MUSICAL
Jack Black - Bernie
Bradley Cooper - Silver Linings Playbook
Hugh Jackman - Les Miserables
Tommy Lee Jones - Hope Springs
Channing Tatum - Magic Mike
Alt: Bill Murray - Hyde Park on Hudson
I should swap Murray in for Tatum.  Channing had a great year and if he's getting nominated anywhere, it's here.  And good on him.  We need more actors playing male strippers.  Cooper and Jackman should follow his lead.

ACTRESS - COMEDY/MUSICAL
Judi Dench - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Anna Kendrick - Pitch Perfect
Jennifer Lawrence - Silver Linings Playbook
Meryl Streep - Hope Springs
Barbra Streisand - The Guilt Trip
Alt: Maggie Smith - Quartet
I just can't buy Jennifer Lawrence and 4 60+ women.  Stupid reasoning for putting Anna on my predictions.  **fingers crossed for Leslie Mann**

ACTOR - DRAMA
Daniel Day-Lewis - Lincoln
Richard Gere - Arbitrage
John Hawkes - The Sessions
Joaquin Phoenix - The Master
Denzel Washington - Flight
Alt: Anthony Hopkins - Hitchcock
I put Gere in at the last minute.  Just makes more sense than Hopkins, who had pretty divisive reaction.

ACTRESS - DRAMA
Jessica Chastain - Zero Dark Thirty
Marion Cotillard - Rust and Bone
Emmanuelle Riva - Amour
Quevenzhane Wallis - Beasts of the Southern Wild
Naomi Watts - The Impossible
Alt: Helen Mirren - Hitchcock
Unless they really love J.Law and nominate her for The Hunger Games...  As much as people love Wallis, the Globes don't really love child actors.  They overlooked Keisha Castle-Hughes and Abigail Breslin, both of whom safely made it in the Oscar lineup.  They did nominate Saoirse Ronan, but that film had big love from them.  I think Chastain and Cotillard are the only two certainties.  Hard to believe that this will be Naomi Watts' first nomination.  If she is snubbed, they really do hate her.  At least Nicole will have someone to babysit that night.

MOTION PICTURE - COMEDY/MUSICAL
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Les Miserables
Moonrise Kingdom
Silver Linings Playbook
Ted
Alt: Bernie
Ted makes sense as the blockbuster nominee.  I think my top 4 are in.  I hope Moonrise goes over big, it needs the support.

MOTION PICTURE - DRAMA
Argo
Django Unchained
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Zero Dark Thirty
Alt: Beasts of the Southern Wild
No idea for an alt.  The Master?  The Impossible?  I think that slate is secure.

Lock em, Publish it.  See y'all in the morn.
