So these definitely brought the craziness especially in the actress film categories. Wow, all three of these winners weren't nominated at SAG, and there's a small chance all three might not be nominated for the Oscar. (I think Day has a good shot now.) Ecstatic for Rosamund, and Jodie's win was a huge shock. Kinda thought she was last in the category. There were rumors they loved Andra. Carey really needs to work on her losing face. I remember how sad/crushed she looked back when she was losing for An Education. Take a lesson from Laura Linney!

As for the show, it was messy and the Emmys did the virtual ceremony better. I'm glad there was an audience of first responders there. I'm wondering why the NYC audience was much more active than the LA one. Tina and Amy were fine, but their chemistry really depends on them being physically together. I also love that they went after how awful Emily In Paris and Music were. The bits with the doctors over zoom, and the guy talking to kids went on way too long and resulted in too many speeches being cut short. They crammed in around 10 categories in the last hour. I'm amazed it only ended like 2-3 minutes over. A lot of technical glitches and it wasn't good that the night started off with Daniel's speech having no sound. I know it's virtual and there's only so much they can do without the sending an entire camera crew to everyone's house. That would probably be too costly and risky. Hopefully the Oscars can really nail things down.

Some random bits:

+Chadwick's widow's speech was really lovely.

+Viola Davis and Jodie Foster looked viscerally angry and over it, until Foster won and Davis lost to Day. Then, they seemed ecstatic.

+The whole "nominees interacting on TV virtually" didn't work at all. But it was almost worth it for the Comedy Actors making fun of Tracy Morgan's mispronouncing Soul.

+And Don Cheadle's "wrap it up" to Jason Sudeikis was great. And probably helpful. Man, Jason looks rough. If he needs someone to comfort him, I'm always here. ;-)

+I thought Maya and Kenan were funny. I was apparently the only one.

+The older ladies looking like hot mamas. Jane Fonda, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rosie Perez, Salma Hayek, and Angela Bassett showing 'em how it's done. One of the few good things about 2020 was seeing Rosie Perez in more stuff. Let's continue that.

+It's weird getting old and seeing the people you've watched get old too. Ben Stiller is turning into Dustin Hoffman, while Amy Poehler kinda resembles Beverly D'Angelo.

+I didn't really care for the mostly filmed intros (but some in-house). Sandra Oh's intro to Palm Springs was the best. I think they probably should've just cut the trailer clips. Also, this is the second time Salma has intro'd a Frances McDormand film that went on to win the big award. Salma must be her good luck charm.

+Sean Penn appeared!?!?!? WTF Is that his first appearance at the Golden Globes?

+Always in need of repeating: Oliva Colman is just a delight. She looked so genuinely happy for every winner of her show.

+OMG The Globes and their weird presentation order. Why did Comedy Actor go after Comedy Film?

+The HFPA addressing the issues without a plan was a little "move along, nothing to see here". I have to imagine they will address things, but that wasn't too promising. Also, the foreign film winner is an American-produced film that takes place in America. They've got to fix that, too. Minari's director is a class act, though.

+Jane Fonda. That's all.
