Another 5 openers, 3 next week. Outside of the holidays, if there are a lot of openers they have a tendency to bomb and the holdovers will do well. I'm not really feeling any of these openers, even if - by August's standands - the reviews for them are fairly decent. Angry Birds 2 opened yesterday to about $2.5m. It was supposed to open today, but was bumped up at the last minute. It should be enough to be #1 for the weekend. Good Boys feels like it might be the opener to break out, but how much demand is there for a tween Superbad? 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, much like its predecessor, probably should debut on streaming. I'm still shocked how well the first one did, as it had some of the best legs of Summer 2017. Even with a C Cinemascore?!?!? Where'd You Go, Bernadette? is the only opener lacking reviews as they debut tonight, I believe. I've heard the book is quite big, but this film has been delayed almost a year and a half. Blinded By the Light is the opener with the best reviews, and perhaps the success of Yesterday made the studio confident in it. I would've opened it in limited this weekend and expanded it wide over Labor Day. 5 openers last weekend, and 2 are already out of the top 10. How many of this weekend's openers will survive to next weekend?
