5 openers this weekend. Dora is such a wildcard, I really have no idea where it will land. A decade or so ago it could've done big numbers. Likewise, Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark feels like an event that could-have-been. I'm not sure how popular the books are with this current youth generation, but they were huge with mine (kids of the 80's/90's). Again, it's probably too late for this to do much. Perhaps the smart thing may have been to do a limited series with each episode inspired by a specific story, with its own writer and director and cast. I digress. Reviews for The Kitchen are poor, and the much better received Once Upon a Time In Hollywood and The Farewell are absorbing most of the adult audience. As my post title states, The Art of Racing... is the third film released this year in which a dog narrates. But hey, at least its not another franchise movie, right? Brian Banks is the the last opener, and I've seen no advertising whatsoever. Bleeker Street is putting it in 1500+ theaters. I'm not sure how much longer that studio will be around as I don't believe they've had a single genuine hit. 4 openers next weekend.
