Dumbo continues the live action remakes of a Disney classic. Reviews are mixed-negative and that figures as this was one of the few of its ilk I was looking forward to. Still, it should generate enough interest and do decently worldwide. Us did slightly bigger than I anticipated last weekend. It'll be interesting to see how legs go, given the divisive nature of the ending. Can it get to $200m or does it just fall short? Either way, Peele should be given any money he wants for his next project. Also opening is the pro-birth religious movie Unplanned, which has an R-rating. None of these film have broken out lately and I suspect the rating will hurt more than help. (Though I have to love the conservative outrage over the MPAA. Oh, the irony!) The Matthew McConaughey-Harmony Korine film The Beach Bum opens in 700+ locations. I've seen almost no advertising and McConaughey hasn't exactly been getting the ticket sales he used to. Lastly, Hotel Mumbai looks to be going nationwide. Even with the weak numbers in the bottom of the top 10, it probably won't make the top 10.
