An insane performance from Black Panther last weekened, breaking lots of records. Can it do over $100m the second weekend is the big question. I think it just narrowly misses that number, but I could very well be wrong. Three openers, Game Night showing the most promise just because of the lack of comedic films in the marketplace. Both it and Annihilation have pretty solid reviews, so if they open soft, legs could help. That said, I've heard some reviews say Annihilation might not be so mainstream-friendly. The remaining opener is Orion's Every Day. Yes, Orion. Whew, remember them? The concept seems cute enough, but it has no stars and marketing has been light. Among the holdovers, Jumanji looks set for $400m. I'm continually baffled by that film's performance. I get why Greatest Showman broke out, but I struggle to see the enthusiasm for Jumanji. Right film, right market, I suppose.
