Box: It's Morphin Time!

Beauty was the beast it was expected to be. A quartet of openers probably won't do combined what Beauty will do in its second weekend. Rangers will fare the best, as there apparently is still an audience for that type of thing. Who knew? The sci-fi yarn Life probably would have done better where it was originally supposed to open - the summer. A strong international gross will save it, because it doesn't look like it's going to do anything worth noting here. The awful looking CHIPS also opens. It's only advantage is that it has the comedy market to itself. There have been a dearth of comedy movies lately, so a good one might have been able to break out at this time of year. There's also something called Slamma Jamma opening in a thousand theaters. Even with a weak #10, I doubt it makes the top 10.
