1. ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES - $33m
The 5-day will get to $50m+, probably. It depends on how many people knew about the last minute date change. It's looking at $150m+ domestic gross. Comedies have mostly overperformed this year, and this is the only major one of the entire season. I think if this came out 4-5 years ago, it might have been able to do $200m+.
2. THE HOBBIT: DESOLATION OF SMAUG - $30m
Opening just about on par with expectations last weekend, it'll be just under $130m after this weekend. A lot will depend on how sturdy its holiday legs are, but it should get to around $235m.
3. AMERICAN HUSTLE - $17m
Ah, the power of JLaw! It's brought in around $1m so far in just 6 theaters, and with a strong award season it'll come close to Silver Linings Playbook's $132m.
4. FROZEN - $13.5m
That number takes it to $185m, and it's going to get a nice end of year boost given Walking With Dinosaurs is probably going nowhere. I don't think it'll get another $100m, but just below would get it to $265m.
5. WALKING WITH DINOSAURS - $9m
A total gross in the high 50's looks about right. Frozen is more of a threat to it than vice versa.
6. SAVING MR. BANKS - $8m
An underwhelming performance in limited last weekend with just about half a million, it's not helping that its award season run isn't taking off beyong Emma Thompson's performance. Families with older children will probably favor Secret Life of Walter Mitty than this PG-13 Disney film. Total gross should be in the low 50's.
7. A MADEA CHRISTMAS - $7m
This did significantly less than expected last weekend and with the typical Tyler Perry frontloading, it won't get much further than $40m.
8. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE - $6.5m
That number gets it to just under $370m, but it will probably start losing significant theaters given the vast number of films opening in the next week. Still, it should get close $400 if not over.
9 and on. THE BOOK THIEF / INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS / OUT OF THE FURNACE / PHILOMENA / THOR: THE DARK WORLD - $1m
Llewyn is getting around 150 theaters, it's already at $1m. It'll be interesting to see how far that ones goes. I'm thinking just under $20m total.
