Summer Box Office: The B.O. Is All Right

Eclipse's mostly good word of mouth might allow it to have better legs than the last installment. The biggest surprise might be that Last Airbender's distasterous reviews and word of mouth aren't killing it off faster. After the reactions came on, this seemed like it would be the final nail in the coffin of M. Night Shyamalan's career. Somehow though, its not dropping like a rock. Cyrus expands to a couple hundred theatres and will continue this year's trends of indie successes topping mainstream successes. Perhaps with all the familiarity at the multiplex, people are seeking out speciality films. This will bode well for this week's arrival of Oscar contender The Kids Are All Right. I'm suspecting that to have a very good run straight through the end of summer. Next week: the great white hope in the form of Inception.
