I know I've done way worse. I think one year I got as low as 10/25. I'll have to look some scores up later.
All in all, a solid set of winners. Quan made me cry a little.
Ceremony was okaaay, it was very obvious it was going to run over. They added 2 categories, but took out all the film clips. There were also significantly fewer presenters - I think about 20? They've gone as high as 50 in the past. I think the last hour felt very much like a typical Globes. That's where a lot of the crazier moments happened. Jennifer Coolidge and Regina Hall, in particular, livened things up. As did Ana Gasteyer and Nicole Byer. And Natasha Lyonne! I did love the design of the room, felt very Hollywood nighclub circa the '50's.
Jerrod Carmichael kinda bombed, and I felt bad for Chloe Flower who apparently got a lot of blame on social media. (I mean, the host even pointed this out. And LOL at Michelle Yeoh threatening to beat her up.) Carmichael's best bit was the Shelly Miscavige joke, which got gasps but I'm glad he went there. I've seen some of Carmichael's work and he's very good, but his style doesn't mesh well with an award show.
I'm also laughing at Brad Pitt being the belle of the ball, when social media thought he would be a no-show and everyone now hated him. There was a lot of love and lust for him in that room. Nice of Ryan Murphy to help so many outsiders get work in the industry, but as with him he is far too eager to pat himself on the back. And the people he helped deserve far better than his good-for-half-a-season-then-turns-disastrous creations. I'm most amazed Sarah Paulson only appeared once in his montage.
Disappointed that E! only did 2 hours of red carpet instead of their usual 4ish hours pre-show, followed by an hour long post-show. What gives? Also, I watched some of Variety's preshow and that was fucking painful. The woman spent Jenna Ortega's entire interview talking about Lady Gaga. I was waiting for her to be like "Jenna, what do you think Gaga is doing right now?"
