OSCAR PREDICTIONS (1ST OF 2)

VISUAL EFFECTS:
Bakeoff was Ant-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ex Machina, Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Tomorrowland and The Walk. I guess Revenant's bear will help it get it. I'd love for Ex Machina to show, but it's probably too non-showy. Tomorrowland should also be a lock, but it was a flop and forgotten.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

THE SOUND CATEGORIES
Take any film in contention for visual effects, throw in any musicals, war movies, animated movies, action movies, and just about film in contention for Best Picture that isn't dialogue-driven, and this is where you'll get your nominees for this category.

ORIGINAL SONG:
The Brian Wilson song was deemed ineligible. It used to be that the Globes winner was snubbed here, but I think Smith might be in despite it being so bland. Say 'Hello' to Oscar-nominee Lady Gaga. The big question: Is the Academy really going to make Fifty Shades of Grey an Oscar-nominated film? I firmly believe the Ellie Goulding song should be nominated. It's probably one of the best on the longlist. And, I'll predict it.
