Mojo is saying Jane Got a Gun is getting 550 theaters, but EVERY theater around me has it booked. I'm guessing Weinstein is taking it into 1000-1500 theaters. I've only seen one TV spot for it, so I doubt it'll make the top 10. Might not even make the top 15. Kung Fu Panda 3 (certainly an odd film for a January release) will be #1 and it has no family competition until Zootopia at the beginning of March. Finest Hours should do OK, as these rescue-from-disaster movies sometimes surprise. Fifty Shades of Black probably could a couple million, so the studio can enjoy a nice little profit. The winter storm dampened business last week anywhere from 20-25%, so things might recover. It must be stated that of all the Oscar movies, Brooklyn seems to have benefited. Word of mouth was initially said to be great, but it kinda got lost among the holiday movies' hype. Room also had an ok expansion, and with an actress win on the horizon might be able to match last year's Best Actress winner Still Alice's gross.
