Star Wars arrives, in case you haven't heard. This is a tough one to predict. Films that open this time of year don't behave like a film opening in summer...or really any other time of the year. Films earn a huge chunk of money over a period of 2-3 weeks, with soft weekday drops. If Star Wars were opening in May or June, it could've easily done $250m+ in its first three days. There's never been a film this large opening this time of year. Of course, it should be pointed out the James Cameron blockbusters both opened the week before Christmas. However, they were very leggy. I expect Star Wars will break the opening weekend record (just barely!) and go on to be the highest grossing film of the year (also just barely!). Sisters and Alvin are the brave films going up against this behemoth. Both will have the typical performances for this time of year: soft openings, leggy runs. Everything in the top 10 (except Spotlight) will probably see 50%+ drops this weekend, before rebounding for the long holidays.

As for me, I've only ever seen one Star Wars movie. I've seen bits and pieces of the others. It's not my thing. Maybe I'll see this one just to support Carrie Fisher and her awesomeness.
