Golden Globes Dix

I didn't do nominations or winners predictions last year. NBC didn't even air the "ceremony", which was just a private event for the members. This year, the network renewed the show and will air it on a Tuesday night. It feels like they are renewing for one year to see if the HFPA made any progress, and will dump it again if not. Who knows? It's hard to predict where exactly the nominations will fall: the old fashioned starfucking that defined this show or something more progressive that will perhaps look more like a critics awards. Or, hopefully, something in between. And who knows what the actual show will look like. Brendan Fraser has already stated he won't attend, Tom Cruise claimed to return his trophies last year, while Jamie Lee Curtis has indicated she would attend. All potential nominees. I think the drunken, GIF-generating party atmosphere is probably going to be more low key. It is worth noting that TNT/TBS has cancelled the SAG Awards and that award show is still looking for a home. It seemed like an easy solution for NBC to pick that show up instead of the Globes, but I guess not.

It was announced earlier in the week that Jerrod Carmichael would be hosting the 80th Globes ceremony. Good choice! The nominations will be announced Monday morning.

I'll be impressed if this somehow isn't my lowest score for these ever. So, here goes...

I'm just doing the Film side. I wasn't even aware that they split up the supporting categories in television. I'm so out of the TV loop, and there's just so much streaming. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Go Jenna Ortega!

Animated Feature:
The Bad Guys - Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio - Marcel the Shell With Shoes On - Turning Red - Wendell and Wild
alt: Puss In Boots: The Last Wish

Foreign Film:
All Quiet on the Western Front - Bardo - Close - Decision To Leave - RRR
alt: Corsage

Song:
"Lift Me Up" - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
"Naatu Naatu" - RRR
"Hold My Hand" - Top Gun: Maverick
"Nobody Like U" - Turning Red
"Carolina" - Where the Crawdads Sing
alt: "Stand Up" - Till

Score:
Avatar: The Way of Water - Babylon - The Fabelmans - Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio - The Woman King
alt: Women Talking

Supporting Actor:
Paul Dano - The Fabelmans
Brendan Gleeson - The Banshees of Inisherin
Tom Hanks - Elvis
Ke Huy Quan - Everything Everywhere All At Once
Ben Whishaw - Women Talking
alt: Eddie Redmayne - The Good Nurse
Or Brad Pitt, Barry Keoghan, Judd Hirsh. I think four of these might be locked. Hanks may be the LOL nom of the morning. Perhaps Bryan Tyree Henry?

Supporting Actress:
Jessie Buckley - Women Talking
Hong Chau - The Whale
Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin
Jamie Lee Curtis - Everything Everywhere All At Once
Janelle Moanae - Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
alt: Dolly de Leon - Triangle of Sadness
This is rough. I think Condon is probably locked and just her. There's also Claire Foy, Nina Hoss, Stephanie Hsu, Keke Palmer, Gabrielle Union, and Carey Mulligan. It'll be interesting to see how this category shakes out over the season. I see a lot of people have switched from Buckley to Foy.

Screenplay:
The Banshees of Inisherin - Everything Everywhere All At Once - The Fabelmans - TÁR - Women Talking
alt: Glass Onion: a Knives Out Mystery
I think every prediction has this lineup.

Actor - Comedy/Musical:
Diego Calva - Babylon
George Clooney - Ticket to Paradise
Daniel Craig - Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Colin Farrell - The Banshees of Inisherin
Ralph Fiennes - The Menu
alt: Tom Hanks - A Man Called Otto
Or Adam Sandler.

Actress - Comedy/Musical:
Lesley Manville - Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris
Julia Roberts - Ticket to Paradise
Margot Robbie - Babylon
Emma Thompson - Good Luck To You, Leo Grande
Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All At Once
alt: Anya Taylor-Joy - The Menu
I'd be surprised if anyone else shows up, unless they put Janelle in lead.

Actor - Drama:
Austin Butler - Elvis
Tom Cruise - Top Gun: Maverick
Brendan Fraser - The Whale
Hugh Jackman - The Son
Bill Nighy - Living
alt: Paul Mescal - Aftersun
That's probably it.

Actress - Drama:
Cate Blanchett - TÁR
Olivia Colman - Empire of Light
Viola Davis - The Woman King
Danielle Deadwyler - Till
Michelle Williams - The Fabelmans
alt: Jennifer Lawrence - Causeway
Or Naomi Ackie.

Director:
James Cameron - Avatar: The Way of Water
The Daniels - Everything Everywhere All At Once
Todd Field - TÁR
Sarah Polley - Women Talking
Steven Spielberg - The Fabelmans
alt: Martin McDonagh - The Banshees of Inisherin
I'm not even certain they saw Avatar. Could also be Kosinski. If he shows up here, he's probably showing up everywhere.

Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical:
Babylon
The Banshees of Inisherin
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Triangle of Sadness
alt: RRR
They are now allowing Foreign & Animated films in these categories which might throw things off.

Motion Picture - Drama:
Avatar: The Way of Water
The Fabelmans
TÁR
Top Gun: Maverick
Women Talking
alt: Elvis
Elvis is such a Globes movie, but I'm not sure what to take out. I think TÁR's critical reception will push it in. Fabelmans and Top Gun are the only ones I'm totally confident in.

Fabelmans and EEAAO lead with 6. Throw in technical nominations for Top Gun and Avatar, and those four are probably the nominations leaders for this season.
