Watch the Oscars!

What a decade the past year has been!

The old showbiz adage has always been "The show must go on!" and the Oscars will go on. This is not an "asterisk Oscars". 374 films were eligible for Academy consideration. Films were screened. Festivals happened. Campaigns were waged. Nominations were chosen. Controversies occurred, along with the usual "backlashes". Tomorrow night, about 2 months later than usual, a ceremony will take place and statues will be given out. It's a real Oscars.

It'll just look and feel a little different. A little more intimate. The ceremony will take place at LA's Union Station instead of the Dolby Theatre. The show itself will emulate the feel of watching a film. There will be significantly less people there than usual. (Only around 150, apparently.) The nominated songs have been pre-recorded and will air during the pre-ceremony show. Presenters are scheduled to include Riz Ahmed, Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Viola Davis, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Bong Joon Ho, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Steven Yeun, RenĂ©e Zellweger, and Zendaya. For the third year in a row, there will be no host.

The 93rd Academy Awards air Sunday April 25th on ABC at 8PM Eastern. There will be a pre-show on the network starting at 6:30PM, and a post-show at 11:30PM. E! will start coverage at 3PM, and will do their own post-show immediately following the ceremony. ABC also is doing coverage earlier in the day, starting at 1PM. I've said before that the stuff they run in the afternoon is actually great, with a strong focus on footage from previous ceremonies and introducing the nominees.

Happy Oscars!
