81/106 = 76.4%
Top 8 = 35/43 = 81.4%

Years Past:
2017: 89/107 = 83.2% / Top 8 = 88.6%
2016: 79/106 (74.5%) & 36/43 (83.7%)

2013: 80/107 (74.8%) & 36/44 (81.8%)

My lowest score for the top 8, and average-ish for all the nominees.

These are a wildly mixed bag.

Sad that Cooper missed Directing, but the silver lining there is maybe it helps him in Actor. *fingers crossed*
Can't believe that Vice's fanbase took it so far? That Rockwell nom is ridiculous.

I've heard people say that the Academy is at a crossroads between the old and new guards and I think that's really apparent with these nominations.

While I found Kumail and Tracee charming and their banter didn't distract from the nominations, why were they broadcasting from some hall? And why does the Academy insist on this weird power point presentation lately? Can we go back to the nominees being announced in front of the press?

Upon thinking about these nominations a little longer, there's a lot of good here:
+7 of the nominated performances are LGBT characters.
+The two films that garnered the most nominations are both led by women.
+The directing branch consistently does the best.
+Netflix got 13 nominations. I said last year they probably wouldn't have a legit threat for Best Picture for another decade or so....and man, was I wrong!
+A superhero movie finally broke into the Best Picture lineup.
+OSCAR NOMINEE NICOLE HOLOFCENER!!!! So happy she's finally been nominated!

I think the major problem is that most of the best films of 2018 have been overlooked ALL season. I guess too many of us were counting on the Oscars to completely rectify that, as opposed to what they did which was fix a few things here and there.

And what does Emily Blunt have to do to get nominated!??!?!
