Team Spotlight winning Best Picture

Okay, we got some surprises. Good. I knew when Morgan stared at the envelope for a few seconds that Spotlight won. Spotlight won the first and last award of the night, nothing more. It's the first Best Picture to win only one other award since The Greatest Show on Earth in 1952. Ex Machina may be the biggest surprise in any category I can recall? WOW. I lost my shit at that. A deserved win, though, and I can't help but feel A24 is really in the game now. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with these winners. Alejandro's win is probably the worst, but...

I'll just keep my thoughts brief and go in depth will a lengthier post tomorrow night or Tuesday. (Same as always, loyal blog reader(s).)

Rock was okaaaay. It was an unwinnable situation and I can't help but feel a little disappointed. The Jada burn was great. Most of the bits, however, didn't really work. In particular, the Stacey Dash appearance was so awkward and clumsy and you could probably have heard a pin drop during it. It's one of the most massive WTF? moments as far as supposed comedic Oscar moments go. Again, I'll get in to this more later on. Though Tracey Morgan made me laugh hysterically as the black Danish Girl, and Tina Fey continues to be an award show savior. The directing was bad. The Gaga performance, which clearly killed in the room, was completely schizo. That directing robbed it of its power. Thank you to Sam Smith for at least mentioning the LGBT community that has been ignored in the diversity conversation.

Okay, now the great:

The technical categories.

I'm not joking: I actually teared up during the Sound Editing presentation. After that, no one should ever have confusion between the difference in sound editing and sound mixing. Bravo. Great clip packages all around.

Thank you for saving the environment, Leo. Enjoy all the supermodel pussy you get on your private jet!

And 6 Oscars for the best movie of the past several years..what a lovely day, indeed! Love hearing those Aussie accents!

Night everyone!
