Oscar nominations!

American Hustle and Gravity lead with 10 nominations.  12 Years a Slave receives 9.  Dallas Buyers Club overperforms with 6, and Captain Phillips slightly underperforms with the same.

No Tom Hanks.  No Emma Thompson.  No Daniel Bruhl.  3 people miss out with the BFCA+Globe+SAG+BAFTA combo.  Thompson deserved to get in over Streep even if I don't think she was that great.  Over Dench, too.

NO OPRAH!!!!  It was kinda not a surprise, she was battling for that last slot with Sally!

But I don't really care too much about any of them, because they didn't nominate Sarah Polley in Doc.  UGH!  HOW!  I did like that they announced Documentary.  I think that was the first time it made the morning show announcement.

No Lana Del Rey :-(  but I guess that wasn't happening.  Such a great song, though!

OSCAR NOMINEE SALLY HAWKINS!  That made me so happy, really.  Finally, justice for Poppy!

But biggest WOOOOHOOO of the morning....

FIVE

TIME

OSCAR

NOMINEE

AMY ADAMS

Bow down, fuckers.  I'm listening to "I Feel Love" and screaming in my bathroom in celebration.

David O. Russell went 2 years in a row getting 4 actors nominated from his film.  All four actors that got nominated from American Hustle have been nominated in his films before.  That's kinda insane.

Leo and Amy getting nominated makes this a Catch Me If You Can reunion.  Well, minus Tom Hanks.

A Jackass film is an Oscar-nominee.  Then again, Lone Ranger has 2 noms.  The same as a Coen Brothers movie.

Jonah Hill becomes the first male born after 1980 to get more than one acting nomination.  The women are Natalie Portman, Michelle Williams, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Lawrence.  I think that's correct?  Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams become the first actors this decade to get three nominations.

The Best Actress lineup has 38 nominations between them.

The techs aren't as crazy as they could have been.  That said, Dallas Buyers in editing???? WTF.

79 / 107 = 73.8%
top 8 = 36/44 = 81.8%

Man, that's bad.  (Not too bad on the top 8!)  LOL.  AMPAS is becoming a little more esoteric with every passing year.  This might be the first time I didn't nail an acting category in my predictions.  Eeesh.
The only category I got right was Adapted Screenplay.
