1. THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG - $77m
I don't know how much it's going to help that this is said to be a big improvement from the first installment. It's said to be one long action movie. It might be in a neck and neck battle with Frozen for the #2 spot of the holiday season. $250m sounds about right for a finish.
2. A MADEA CHRISTMAS - $26m
And this one has Larry the Cable Guy! Final gross will be about $65m
3. FROZEN - $19m
If this hadn't been #1 one last weekend, it might have been a contender for the highest grossing movie to never make it to #1. With a gross just over $160m after the weekend, it should play straight through the end of the year and get to $250m.
4. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE - $13.5m
That takes it to about $358m, and with a small holiday bounce it'll clear $400m. Still, it may not be enough to overtake Iron Man 3's $409m.
5. OUT OF THE FURNACE - $2.5m
Things really take a tumble here. Its opening was okay, but it won't get anywhere beyond a total gross in the mid teens.
6. THOR: THE DARK WORLD - $2.5m
Just under $200m after this weekend, with an expected finish of about $205m.
7. DELIVERY MAN - $2m
The legs on this were okay because it's the only comedy in release. With Madea this week and Anchorman 2 on Wednesday, this will vanish.
8/9/10 - THE BOOK THIEF / HOMEFRONT / PHILOMENA - $1.5m
Homefront and Book will cross $20m, which is not exactly cause for a celebration. Philomena, assuming it continues to get nominations during award season, might be able to as well.
