Now You See Me opened higher than predicted and if it can maintain decent legs will cross $100m. After Earth, thankfully, underperformed. Hopefully this will prevent other A-listers from trying to create vanity vehicles for their unproven children. This weekend is looking to be the calm before a month-long storm. The next 4 weekends should see at least one opener doing $50m+ per week. The Purge will perform almost exactly the same way The Strangers did 5 years ago in late May. $20m+ opening, $50m+ finish. I'd say the studio should be very happy with that number as I doubt it was a big investment. The Internship feels like it's coming about 5-6 years too late. I totally forgot about Wedding Crashers and I doubt there's many people just dying for a reunion. In a nice ironic twist, that film's costar Isla Fisher is having a money-making summer.
