That has to be the best I ever did? This group changing its membership has the made the nominations and winners much more predictable.
As for the show, it was mostly solid. Glaser is terrific at this and is probably doing this many more times. No objections from me.
The major issue was those fucking announcers - Kevin Frazer and Marc Malkin. Frazer did this last year and I complained about it then. They added Malkin, who is a terrible interviewer that the internet rightfully has daggers out for frequently. Just drop it. Also, the sports betting thing was terrible. Other than those two issues, it was fairly decent. Nothing too chaotic. Also, I'm pretty sure I heard every single pop sing of the past 20 years. Now That's What I Call Music: Golden Globes edition. They need to drop those stupid extra categories.
I've pointed this out before, and it's an interesting thing to age and see actors who once were young take on the position of respected elder statesman. Man, did Julia Roberts get it tonight! Loved that standing ovation for her as she's still the type of once in a generation star that the industry wishes it could replicate. And her shouting out Eva Victor? How fucking cool was that? Ecstatic for Rose Byrne! Lovely speeches from PTA, too. Wanda Sykes wins presenter of the night. It seemed a lot more starry than usual. Considering that just three years ago about a quarter of the nominees didn't attend, they've made progress in that regard. I did not care for the red carpet copying the Met Gala stairs, though.
