96th Oscars Winner Predix!

VISUAL EFFECTS:
The Creator - Godzilla Minus One - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 - Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 - Napoleon
Probably one of the most up in the air races of the night. I'd say this is between Creator and Godzilla, though history would seem to lean Napoleon given the connection between Production Design and this category of late. Godzilla would be a very popular winner, but it's clear a victory would be more for the film than the actual effects work. That gives a slight edge to THE CREATOR.

SOUND:
The Creator - Maestro - Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 - Oppenheimer - The Zone of Interest
While Zone was a nice surprise at BAFTA, I think OPPENHEIMER will prevail.

ORIGINAL SONG:
"The Fire Inside" - Flamin' Hot
"I'm Just Ken" - Barbie
"It Never Went Away" - American Symphony
"Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)" - Killers of the Flower Moon
"What Was I Made For?" - Barbie
Two-time Academy Award Winner Billie Eilish for "What Was I Made For?"

ORIGINAL SCORE:
American Fiction - Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - Killers of the Flower Moon - Oppenheimer - Poor Things
OPPENHEIMER continues its tech streak.

MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING:
Golda - Maestro - Oppenheimer - Poor Things - Society of the Snow
Maestro and Poor Things will battle it out, and I'm thinking the "Jewface" accusations might hurt the former. A mini-streak of wins for POOR THINGS begins.

PRODUCTION DESIGN:
Barbie - Killers of the Flower Moon - Napoleon - Oppenheimer - Poor Things
Barbie had all the heat at the start of the season, but POOR THINGS has won its share of awards in this category.

COSTUME DESIGN:
Barbie - Killers of the Flower Moon - Napoleon - Oppenheimer - Poor Things
Same as above, POOR THINGS takes this over Barbie. Just barely.

FILM EDITING:
Anatomy of a Fall - The Holdovers - Killers of the Flower Moon - Oppenheimer - Poor Things
Another win for OPPENHEIMER.

CINEMATOGRAPHY:
El Conde - Killers of the Flower Moon - Maestro - Oppenheimer - Poor Things
Yet another trophy for OPPENHEIMER

INTERNATIONAL FEATURE:
IO Capitano - Perfect Days - Society of the Snow - The Teachers' Lounge - The Zone of Interest
THE ZONE OF INTEREST has the Best Picture edge.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:
Bobi Wine: The People's President - The Eternal Memory - Four Daughters - To Kill a Tiger - 20 Days In Mariupol
20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL wins.

ANIMATED FEATURE:
The Boy and the Heron - Elemental - Nimona - Robot Dreams - Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
I know the internet would love a Heron win, I just think SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE is just too big to lose, but it will be close.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY:
American Fiction - Barbie - Oppenheimer - Poor Things - The Zone of Interest
Interesting to note that this is one of the few times Barbie has been put in adapted, but it probably won't be enough to beat AMERICAN FICTION

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY:
Anatomy of a Fall - The Holdovers - Maestro - May December - Past Lives
The Holdovers and Past Lives will get a decent share of votes, but it won't be quite enough to take down ANATOMY OF A FALL.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
Sterling K. Brown - American Fiction
Robert De Niro - Killers of the Flower Moon
Robert Downey Jr - Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling - Barbie
Mark Ruffalo - Poor Things
ROBERT DOWNEY JR will complete his sweep.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
Emily Blunt - Oppenheimer
Danielle Brooks - The Color Purple
America Ferrera - Barbie
Jodie Foster - Nyad
Da'Vine Joy Randolph - The Holdovers
DA'VINE JOY RANDOLPH will complete her sweep.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:
Bradley Cooper - Maestro
Colman Domingo - Rustin
Paul Giamatti - The Holdovers
Cillian Murphy - Oppenheimer
Jeffrey Wright - American Fiction
21 years later, CILLIAN MURPHY wins an Oscar.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
Annette Bening - Nyad
Lily Gladstone - Killers of the Flower Moon
Sandra Hüller - Anatomy of a Fall
Carey Mulligan - Maestro
Emma Stone - Poor Things
One of those years where it would be great to see the final tally, but I suspect LILY GLADSTONE wins. It's gonna be close.

DIRECTING:
Justine Triet - Anatomy of a Fall
Martin Scorsese - Killers of the Flower Moon
Christopher Nolan - Oppenheimer
Yorgos Lanthimos - Poor Things
Jonathan Glazer - The Zone of Interest
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN wins an Oscar. And corners of the internet rejoice/meltdown.

BEST PICTURE:
American Fiction
Anatomy of a Fall
Barbie
The Holdovers
Killers of the Flower Moon
Maestro
Oppenheimer
Past Lives
Poor Things
The Zone of Interest

The big debate will be what was second to OPPENHEIMER, but it's almost pointless.

Oppenheimer is a bit of a unicorn that the Academy desperately needs. For the past decade and a half, a good amount of the top eight winners have matched the Independent Spirit Awards. The Oscars needed a big studio film to win across the board, and now they have it. Throw in that the film has a 90 on Metacritic, appeared on over 400 top 10 lists, has a cast featuring A-listers and award winners, has a timely subject matter that Hollywood can pat itself on the back by honoring, and one of the top directors currently working. Now take all that, and then add that it made nearly a billion dollars worldwide, which would make it the highest grossing Best Picture winner in 20 years. It's easy to see why Oppenheimer swept through award season.
