Not too great of a Spirit Awards show. Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman weren't much as hosts, and the early Simon Rex dick jokes went on too long. Not to mentioned the actor looked completely over the bit. Rex and Paige gave really great speeches, the latter was quite emotional. Maggie Gyllenhaal went on a little too long in both her individual speeches. In fact, the overall show ran almost 27 minutes late. I believe I said last year I'm not a fan of them adding TV categories, and they shuffled three categories (Cinematography, Editing, and International Film) to the commercial breaks to make room. Ugh. I am however very happy that they let Ruth Negga give a speech despite not being there. Tonight may have also been a sad reminder how screwed over Passing was this season. Now, I just need to see The Novice.
