So TV was as crazy as predicted. There's just so many series out there in so many formats. They really went (overboard, I'd say) for streaming. And they clearly didn't like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. That sucks. I'm sad that hot guy from Outlander didn't get nominated. But with the show nominated, I guess he'll be on the red carpet. I really should have seen that Crazy Ex Girlfriend nom coming given how many events that actress has been attending with HFPA. It's hard to believe this is Kirsten Dunst's first major nomination in almost 2 decades. WHAAAATT?

Oh, and Golden Globe nominee Lady Gaga. Obviously

As for Film:
These were pretty good. It's great to see Carol lead the noms, and WOO-FUCKING-HOO at Mad Max making it. The Spotlight actors got screwed. I haven't seen that (I'll see it in the next week!) but I've heard it's very subtle acting, so that might be why it's not showing up. However, it seems odd that Rachel might be the best shot at an Oscar nom right now, making her like Kim Basinger in LA Confidential. YES @ Melissa McCarthy finally getting a Globe nod and happy they recognized Spy too.

Happy Paul Dano came back after the SAG omission. I think Shannon, Rylance and Elba are in for supporting actor. Stallone might be, too.

Alicia Vikander got two noms, after all. Happy Ex Machina got such a major nomination!

Snubbed: Johnny Depp - that's a big surprise. No idea if he'll make it into Oscar lineup or not. Oh, and I guess they are over Nancy Meyers. NANANANANAANNANCCCCCYYYYYYYY!!!! And Meryl missed! Damn. She was actually good in that film. I think the 2000's Meryl is best at comedy/musical. Much better than some of her hammy dramatic turns.

Anyways, crazy season. I feel like we've got some perspective on the race. Critics Choice Awards noms announced next week, more guilds and BAFTA in the beginning of January. The race is still very fluid. No favorites yet, and perhaps Leo is the only lock for a win right now. Actress is probably Brie vs. Saoirse with an edge to Brie right now. Supporting Actor - no idea. LOL. Supporting Actress is probably Jennifer Jason Leigh, maybe.

I think the Oscar nominations will yield a few surprises but by then we'll have a good idea of who/what is winning.
