As already stated on every site out there, The Purge defied expectations and went over big last week.  As already stated on every site out there, audiences hate the film and will sink like a rock.  That said, it cost $3 million and will end up with about $70m domestically.  That's a massive profit and this is one time when bad word of mouth and tepid reviews really mean shit.  Maybe Hollywood should learn a thing or two from Jason Blum.  Ethan Hawke proves to not just be a commercial success this month, but a critical one as well.  Before Midnight is expanding to 600+ theaters, and is hoping reviews will carry it to a light indie sleeper.  It's obviously not headed toward Midnight in Paris numbers, and I doubt it will even get close to Mud (which keeps chugging along and will probably get to $25m+.)  But it will be enough to hopefully keep it in the Oscar conversation throughout the year.  I wasn't sure how audiences were going to react to This Is the End, but the film did $2.2m in Tuesday night previews.  So, it looks like a decent 5-day weekend ahead.  It should top at least $30m for that time frame.  The Bling Ring opens in 5 theaters, before expanding to over 500 next weekend.  (The Spring Breakers model!), while Much Ado About Nothing performed very well in 5 theaters last weekend and will see an expansion to a couple hundred next weekend.  So, the art houses are on fire too.

Oh yeah, and that Superman thing opens this weekend.  Reviews have been okay, but not spectacular.  With Father's Day on Sunday, it'll be clear sailing past $100m.  How much beyond that will depend on the public's reaction to it.

All in all, box-office for the next four weeks will be massive.
