You're Next played at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, where it was a surprise hit on the midnight circuit. Lionsgate has held on to the film for almost 2 years and will release it wide in August. I guess that's not that long of a wait given some of us are still waiting for a stateside release of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. It also took Cabin in the Woods a few years to make it to the big screen. This is a very well cut trailer, sort of like an amped up version of The Strangers. Despite the delay, the studio has done a good job in the marketing department and hopefully it can turn into a late summer sleeper. Lionsgate used to be known as the studio that would release festival acquired horror films that no one else wanted and turned them into mini-hits using creative marketing and clever release date counterprogramming. While the studio has broadened its library - now including midlevel action films and terrible Katherine Heigl romcoms, the marketing on this reminds me of what the studio would do in its early days.
