I think this is the first time I've ever predicted a *tie* for #1. This tie is really more for I have no idea what will end up being #1. The Meg feels like it should have gotten an easy victory here but buzz feels very light. Then again, the past two summers have seen shark movies overperform (The Shallows, 47 Meters Down). Slender Man was supposed to open later in the summer and the move may curtail its opening. Blackkklansman was supposed to open limited this weekend and go wide later on, but that has been changed. Buzz and marketing have been great, so it could be a late summer sleeper. The indie-turned-family movie Dog Days opens today. I'll be shocked if it makes the top 10.
