News: Farmiga Cast as Mother In A&E's "Bates Motel"

Hey, I'm including news now! Way to branch out, Darren.

Hollywood Reporter reports that Oscar-nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Departed) will play Norma Bates in A&E's upcoming Psycho prequel series "Bates Motel."  From the story

From Lost's Carlton Cuse and Friday Night Lights' Kerry Ehrin, the series is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic Psycho and is described as a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates' formative years. It will explore his relationship with his mother, Norma, and offer a look at the backstory that helped forge the infamous serial killer. It's been dubbed a cross between Twin Peaks and Smallville.

I have no idea how this will translate to a television format, but add it to the long list of horror-themed projects in the works for TV.  I'm loving it.  With the massive success of True Blood and The Walking Dead, I guess networks took the hint.  I am surprised Miss Farmiga is going to television.  But I guess outside of her well received directorial debut Higher Ground,  her post-nomination career has largely consisted of roles like in Source Code and Safe House where she just provides exposition and supports the main character.
