I thought this weekend would be an easy victory for A Wrinkle In Time, but negative reviews have seemingly killed its buzz along with the still very strong Black Panther. It's profitability will depend on its foreign performance. 10 years after the original, The Strangers: Prey at Night opens and it might have trouble outgrossing the first film's opening weekend. The Hurricane Heist is another film from Entertainment Studios, which have done surprisingly okay so far. Lastly is Gringo. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that misses the top 10 entirely. Oh, and Thoroughbreds appears to be getting a couple hundred theaters. Another film that debuted at a festival and then was held off for a year. Studios can't do that shit anymore. Buzz builds and dies faster than ever before now thanks to social media. The Shape of Water is adding theaters after its Best Picture win, but it comes to home viewing on Tuesday. If the studio had held off for another month and given it a push, it might have been able top $70m, but I suppose they might more money with streaming/etc.
