YASSSSSSS OSCAR NOMINEE RACHEL MCADAMS. She finally happened.

(And awesome for Jennifer Jason Leigh and Charlotte Rampling!)

Carol missed the top 2 categories. All white nominees again. Expect controversy about those 2 things.

OSCAR NOMINEE LADY GAGA, too! Big week for her! Will Leo side eye her at the Oscars, too? And "See You Again" missed! Sad the Ellie Goulding song missed as I think its miles better than "Earned It" LOL - of course they throw some random song. MANTA RAY!

The Revenant has 12, Mad Max has 10. This explains Tom Hardy's nomination really. And anytime Leo has gotten a Lead Actor nom, someone in his film has gotten Supporting Actor nom.

It sucks that Guillermo had to announce the nominees and Crimson Peak missed Costumes.

Sorkin and Tarantino missed LOL.

Jennifer Lawrence now a 4x nominee at the age of 25. Kate Winslet, I believe, has the record for 4 nominations by 30. Maybe Marlon Brando, too? (ETA: The answer is Jennifer Jones was the youngest actor to get 4 noms. Before J.Law)

Cate and Kate both got their seventh nominations. Only Meryl Streep, Bette Davis, Geraldine Page and Katherine Hepburn have more. Jeez. Insane to think that? It's weird seeing contemporary actors join the greats? But these two clearly deserve it.

What do you think about the all white oscars controversy. Are you checking your privilege?

I've written about the problems with the Academy's demographics before. I might do another one, but the problem I currently have is with the "all white" controversy is it ignores the fact that Academy frequently excludes any minority as well as women. The #1 snub was Carol, a film about a lesbian romance directed by a gay man. Of course, the media has latched onto the all-white aspect. It's anything that isn't about a straight white man (check your privilege Dan!) has trouble getting the Academy's attention.

Damn the highest rated metacritic movie of 2015 ain't got no nominations. That is pretty bad.
