The Conjuring is shaping up to be one of the best reviewed movies of the summer.  And with Warner Bros. screening the shit out of it in advance, they have confidence in a leggy run ahead.  The remaining three openers are a toss-up.  Turbo has a small chance at winning the weekend, but its gross will be spread out over 5 days.  Red 2 is one of the hardest titles to predict in a long time, I could see it going a little higher or even way lower.  The first one enjoyed a leggy run in the fall of 2010, but I don't think its a film where many people were clamoring for a sequel.  Then again, the frequently underserved older audiences have added to the grosses of several films so far this summer.  R.I.P.D. is a bomb.  It cost $130m, so yeah.  That's not happening.  The only thing to guess is how many Monday morning headlines will read "RIP RIPD".  The Way Way Back is going wide (I'm guessing only 600 or so theaters) this weekend instead of next.  It's gross will be in line with something like (500) Days of Summer instead of Best Exotic Marigold Hotel or Moonrise KingdomFruitvale Station had a strong limited run last weekend, expands to about 30 theaters this weekend and is going wide next weekend.  I'm not sure how wide wide, but given the eerie Trayvon Martin connections, it might have breakout potential.
