Box Office Prediction: Summer 2010 Week 1

I've decided to bring back something I used to do on my old blog: box office predictions. Wahoo. Plus, it gives me something to do during Cougar Town commercial breaks.

Iron Man 2 opens this weekend, in case you've been living under a rock and didn't know. Early word suggests this is closer to the overbloated Pirates sequels so I'm not seeing legs of steel. Or iron, obviously. Also opening is what could be an early summer sleeper: Babies. Decently reviewed with some wide appeal, it opens in 500 theatres and no doubt Focus Features is expecting people not wanting snarky (or Stark-y) superheroes and leather-clad (and once promising!) ingenues to help word of mouth carry it a March of the Penguins-esque success. I think it may have done better in late summer. I guess we're just making docs about stuff people love. So look forward to a sequel: Puppies. And perhaps they'll even make a trilogy: Cake.
