And..here...we...go

Supporting Actress
Amy Adams - Doubt
Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Viola Davis - Doubt
Marisa Tomei - The Wrestler
Kate Winslet - The Reader

Ok, not bad. It pisses me off that Adams gets in here, but wasn't nominated for Junebug. I still think one of the Rachel Getting Married girls will pull an Oscar nom. And Tomei will receive her third nom.
Score: 3/5 (+1 alternate)

Supporting Actor
Tom Cruise - Tropic Thunder
Robert Downey Jr - Tropic Thunder
Ralph Fiennes - The Duchess
Philip Seymour Hoffman - Doubt
Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight

Oh. Dear. God. Along the way I jokingly thought to myself that Cruise might pull this off. And here he is. But it's most questionable at the expense of the Milk men, who were (are?) sure things. Fiennes is completely out of left field. Ledger will win.
Score: 2/5 (+1 alternate)

Foreign Language Film
The Baader Meinhof Complex - Everlasting Moments - Gomorrah - I've Loved You So Long - Waltz With Bashir

Animated Feature
Bolt - Kung Fu Panda - Wall-E

Didn't predict either of these.

Score
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Changeling - Defiance - Frost/Nixon - Slumdog Millionaire

Score: 3/5

Song
"I Thought I Lost You" - Bolt
"Once in a Lifetime" - Cadillac Records
"Gran Torino" - Gran Torino
"Down to Earth" - Wall-E
"The Wrestler" - The Wrestler

Score: 2/5

Actor - Comedy/Musical
Javier Bardem - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Colin Farrel - In Bruges
James Franco - Pineapple Express
Brendan Gleeson - In Bruges
Dustin Hoffman - Last Chance Harvey

Ugh, I predicted Gleeson in my first draft then took him out completely. Damn it! I figured Franco would show up in Supp for Milk, but apparently Tom Cruise was better. I love how everyone laughed when Brooke Shields said Pineapple Express.
Score: 2/5

Actress - Comedy/Musical
Rebecca Hall - Vicky Cristina Barcelona
Sally Hawkins - Happy-Go-Lucky
Frances McDormand - Burn After Reading
Meryl Streep - Mamma Mia
Emma Thompson - Last Chance Harvey

Got Fran for the wrong movie. I'm pretty sure she was most likely better in Pettigrew. Nice for Hall. I guess they are over SJP.
Score: 3.5/5 (+1 alt)

Film - Comedy/Musical
Burn After Reading
Happy-Go-Lucky
In Bruges
Mamma Mia
Vicky Cristina Barcelona

Ugh, again with the In Bruges in my early predix. These comedy categories could have been a big disaster but were surprisingly good.
Score: 4/5

Screenplay
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Doubt - Frost/Nixon - The Reader - Slumdog Millionaire

Score: 3/5 (+1 alt)

Actor - Drama
Leonardo Dicaprio - Revolutionary Road
Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon
Sean Penn - Milk
Brad Pitt - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Mickey Rourke - The Wrestler

Not a bad category.
Score: 4/5

Actress - Drama
Anne Hathaway - Rachel Getting Married
Angelina Jolie - Changeling
Meryl Streep - Doubt
Kristin Scott Thomas - I've Loved You So Long
Kate Winslet - Revolutionary Road

I maintain that Melissa Leo will get an Oscar nod. Not bad, again.
Score: 3/5 (+1 alt)

Director
Danny Boyle - Slumdog Millionaire
Stephen Daldry - The Reader
David Fincher - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Ron Howard - Frost/Nixon
Sam Mendes - Reolutionary Road

Ugh, no Van Sant or Nolan. FUCK YOU!
Score: 3/5

Film - Drama
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
The Reader
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire

NO. MILK. NO. MILK. NO. MILK. NO. MILK. or Dark Knight?
Score: 3/5 (+1 alt)

So let's get this straight...

+Milk, a Best Picture Oscar (somewhat) frontrunner, only gets in for actor. Perhaps the biggest news of the morning. The last Best Picture winner that was not nominated for a Golden Globe for Picture was Crash (won over the gay cowboy movie. So if Milk wins the Oscar for Best Picture, have we come full circle?
+Doubt gets 4 acting nods and a screenplay, but not a Picture nom.
+The Reader, despite mostly mixed reviews, makes it in.
+The Dark Knight was probably too action-y for the HFPA.
+Rebecca Hall is an "it girl."
+The comedy categories didn't suck. They were actually decent!
+Everything else did suck.
+Tom Cruise is better than the supporting actors of Milk, Michael Shannon in Revolutionary Road, the Slumdog Millionaire guy?
+I loved how much of a joke Elizabeth Banks realized it was when she read Tom's name.
+Yes, I know the HFPA are starfuckers, but I don't think it was ever at the expense of supposedly deserving talent as it was here.

CONSPIRACY THEORY: Tom Cruise payed for his nomination with the scientologists. He'd agree to go and add MAJOR star power to the ceremony, but they told the HFPA they couldn't nominate the nasty gay movie cuz we know how Tom and the $cientologists feel about all things homosexual. But they knew if Sean Penn didn't get nominated, it would stick out. So they just let him in. Oh, he also wanted Brooke Shields to announce his name, cause he hates her. But at the last minute, Banks and Shields switched papers. It all makes sense now! :-)

SAG noms in a week! Hopefully, those are better.
