SAG Thoughts

Well, whodathunk.

SAG is ALWAYS a boring show. It has some occasional fun moments - two years ago when Meryl Streep did a Price is Right style entrance after winning her award, the Betty White tribute last year and Amy Poehler/John Krasinski presenting whenever that was. But for the most part, I just watch for the winners and dresses.

It seemed like easy victories for The Fighter and David Fincher this weekend, that was to no avail. The King's Speech now has won 3 major American guilds and is ineligible for the last - WGA. I guess that will go to Inception? It just seems so odd. I bet Golden Globe voters are really kicking themselves for giving it to The Social Network. BAFTA's in two weeks and its a pretty easy call what will win there.

As for the SAGs, the dresses were boring for the most part and so were the speeches. Natalie is improving, and Colin Firth is very graceful. Melissa Leo acts exasperated, and Christian Bale's Oscar speech will be half the show. Hopefully, he cleans up a little more for the big night.

BEST DRESSED:
I'll go with Jennifer Lawrence, Mila Kunis and Nicole Kidman if only because their looks were at least interesting. I'm not sold on all three, but I did love Lea Michelle, Hilary Swank and Sofia Vergara. The only problem with them is that I feel I've seen those dresses several times before. In typical SAG fashion, no risks and pretty safe choices. I did sorta like Melissa Leo and Amy Adams, but both outfits were way too tight in the midsection. And hey, Helena Bonham Carter was actually pretty well dressed. Which is kind of a disappointment? And I LOVED Amy Poehler's hair. Oh, totally forgot Tina Fey - she looked great. I've noticed she looks pretty great when she doesn't stick to blue or black.

OMG- E! FIRE GULLIANA! You know, I used to like her. She was one of the better E! people. Now, she's a fucking trainwreck. It was hilarious some of the expressions she was getting from celebrities - Krasinski, Franco and Portman, notably - they really thought she was some kind of joke. I think Seacrest might even be better because it seems like the celebrities pity him. Oddly, TV Guide channel had red carpet coverage for this, but didn't for the Globes? Strange. Yeah, get rid of Rancic. That was really painful to watch. And what was with the Kardashians showing up 10 minutes before showtime as if they are big enough stars to do that? What was with them being there at all? Ugh. E! is really starting to piss me off. A network that is only worth it for Joel McHale and Chelsea Handler. Nothing else.

THE SHOW:
+Did Betty White get the only standing O of the night other than Borgnine (sidenote: BLECK!)?
+The acting clips were decent, but they are always very short.
+Amy Poehler's line before she announced the winners was AWESOME - I think she would make a fantastic Oscar host. But anyone who knows me knows how much of a fan of hers I am.
+Winona's reaction (see above) was like epic. Almost as great as Blanchett's Oscar clip reaction 3 years back.
+How is it that this show is more or less done in the same style as the Globes yet those are so so so so so much more FUN?
+YAH MODERN FAMILY!
+Justin Timberlake needs to tone down his douchebagness.

I guess that's it. I really can't remember much else from this show, but that's usually the case here.

DGA & SAG Predix!

Hey, I have seen a lot of these! If King's Speech takes top prize at either of these, we're fucked.

DGA:

WILL WIN - David Fincher
Alt - Tom Hooper

My personal ranking:
1. Nolan
2. Aronofksy
3. Fincher
4. Hooper
5. Russell

SAG:

WILL WIN:

Ensemble - The Fighter
ALT - The Social Network

Actor - Colin Firth
Alt - James Franco

Actress - Natalie Portman
Alt - Annette Bening

Supp. Actor - Christian Bale
Alt - Geoffrey Rush

Supp. Actress - Melissa Leo
Alt - Amy Adams

I think supporting actress is the trickiest. Kunis and Carter are out. Steinfeld could take it, but I went with Leo because she's the vet. Adams has three prior nominations so she's not too far behind. My problem is I don't recall a film ever winning 3 awards here before? Actually, Chicago did. Way to correct yourself, Darren. The Fighter doesn't feel like the juggernaut Chicago was, so I think one of those awards it won't get.

Personal ranking:

ENSEMBLE
1. The Kids Are All Right - most ensemble-y
2. The Social Network - actual best acted of the bunch, sad that Rooney and Rashida aren't listed because of how they give credit here
3. The Fighter - most actor friendly, lots of scenery chewing, method acting
4. The King's Speech - good acting but really only 2 highlighted roles, not a genuine ensemble film
5. Black Swan - really not an ensemble film, though I'm glad Cassell and Hershey get their due

SUPPORTING ACTOR: (solid lineup minus Renner, who I usually love but is really overrated in The Town)
1. Bale
2. Rush
3. Hawkes
4. Ruffalo
5. Renner

SUPPORTING ACTRESS: (Adams is due because she's still owed for Junebug)
1. Adams
2. Leo
3. Steinfeld
4. Kunis
5. Carter

IN TV - I hope Modern Family can finally beat Glee, but I doubt it will.

ENSEMBLE COMEDY - Glee
Alt - Modern Family

ENSEMBLE DRAMA - Mad Men
Alt - Boardwalk Empire (probably too new to win)

ACTOR - DRAMA - Cranston
Alt - Hamm

ACTRESS DRAMA - Margulies
Alt - Moss

ACTOR COMEDY - Colfer (I'm thinking he actually could pull this off)
Alt - Burrell (or Baldwin, SAG voters are really lazy!)

ACTRESS COMEDY - Lynch
Alt - Vergara (or Falco, these are always so random Betty White will probably win)

Actor Movie/Miniseries - Pacino (ugh! ANOTHER AWFUL SPEECH)
Alt - Ramirez

Actress Movie/Miniseries - Danes
Alt - Ryder

Box-Office: Jason Statham checks under the hood

1. The Rite - $18m / $18m / $50m
2. No Strings Attached - $11m / $37.5m / $64m
3. The Mechanic - $10m / $10m / $28m
4. The Green Hornet - $9.5m / $77m / $100m
5. The King's Speech - $8m / $69m / $115m
6. True Grit - $7m / $148m / $172m
7. Black Swan - $5.5m / $91m / $112m
8. The Dilemma - $5m / $40m / $52m
9. The Fighter - $4m / $78.5m / $92m
10. Yogi Bear - $3m / $92m / $100m

I'm not projecting any of the Oscar films to see an increase, rather I think they will just have very minimal drops.

Nomination Thoughts

Welcome back, Nicole.

(I'm typing this while listening to The Lonely Island & Natalie Portman's Natalie's Rap.)

For the most part, these are very good. There are two shocking omissions and I'll get those out of the way first.

Christopher Nolan scored a nom this morning for screenplay, but missed director. Now, he received noms from the DGA, Golden Globes and BAFTA for directing. So he was probably the morning's biggest "screwed over". Till you realize that Inception missed Editing.

Excuse me?

How THE FUCK did THAT FILM miss EDITING? I get directors maybe not recognizing Nolan because he's like the new Spielberg and it took Spielberg forever to get recognized in directing. BUT THE EDITORS BRANCH DIDN'T NOMINATE THE FILM? DID THEY EVEN FUCKING SEE THE MOVIE? The last half of it is nothing but the editing showcase to end all editing showcases. I mean, they juggle almost four storylines concurrently and keep momentum in all of them creating one of the most thrilling second halves in recent memory. But whatever.

"Damn, Natalie! You a crazy chick! Yo, shut the fuck up and suck my dick"

On to other things...

LOL I almost missed these. I don't know if I ignored the alarm clock but I woke up like seconds before the noms were announced. It was scary.

Mo'nique looked fantastic! Wow! Great job announcing the noms, probably my second favorite ever behind Anne Hathaway.

Congrats to me - I got what I wanted: 10/10 from the actresses. GO ME! AND I GOT ALL TEN PICTURE NOMINEES RIGHT!!!! I'm thrilled for myself. And for the comeback kid, Nicole Kidman.

Congrats to Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams for being the first actors born in the 1980's to score multiple noms.

In fact, again, congrats to all the youngens! Jesse, James, Natalie, Jennifer, Michelle and Hailee - between all of you and the selection of films for Best Picture, we clearly have the youngest and hippest Oscar nominations in years.

Which will make it all the more bullshit when The King's Speech wins Picture, but whatever.

Black Swan didn't go over as big as expected. Only 5 noms, but I knew it was on the verge in several categories.

The techs, as expected, are a little crazy. HOW IS THE KING'S SPEECH A BETTER EDITED MOVIE THAN INCEPTION? I'm over it. I AM LOVE showing up was a nice surprise. Tron: Legacy didn't go over as well, as expected. And I love the irony of Clint Eastwood films scoring its only nomination this year in VISUAL EFFECTS. HAHAHAH. He hates visual effects. AND NO BURLESQUE FOR SONG???

The screenwriters really love Mike Leigh.

LOL Foreign Film nominee Dogtooth apparently makes Antichrist look like a Pixar movie. Looking forward to seeing that one.

Waiting for 'Superman' is another unexpected snub. It seemed so safe, but I'm happy Exit Through the Gift Shop made it in.

That's all for now, I guess. Despite the Incept-snubbing, I'm pretty happy with these.

Oscar Nom Predictions - The Young and the Restless

Just think, next year at this time, I'll be predicting the Olsen twins' young sister to be a nominee! Wild! I won't offer much commentary on the techs. My goal is minimum 4/5 in each category, over 80% altogether.

SOUND MIXING:
Black Swan - Inception - The Town - Tron: Legacy - True Grit
Alt - Toy Story 3

SOUND EDITING:
Inception - Iron Man 2 - Toy Story 3 - Tron: Legacy - Unstoppable
Alt - How to Train Your Dragon
It's possible for Black Swan to show up in both, and I wouldn't be surprised with The Social Network showing up in mixing.

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS:
Alice In Wonderland - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - Inception - Iron Man 2 - Tron: Legacy
Alt - Hereafter
The only remaining film from the bakeoff is Scott Pilgrim. That would be too awesome.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG:
"If I Rise" - 127 Hours
"You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" - Burlesque
"I See The Light" - Tangled
"We Belong Together" - Toy Story 3
"Shine" - Waiting for 'Superman'
Alt - "Coming Home" - Country Strong
Possible for 2 Burlesque or 2 Country Strong songs to make it in. This category is a little too arbitrary sometimes.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE:
127 Hours - How to Train Your Dragon - Inception - The King's Speech - The Social Network
Alt - The Ghost Writer
I'd LURVE Ghost Writer to get a nom here. Never Let Me Go is also a possibility. Who knows which one of these they'll randomly disqualify by tomorrow. The music brand needs serious revisions! Did you hear me, AMPAS?

BEST MAKEUP:
Alice In Wonderland - Barney's Version - The Wolfman
Alt - True Grit
Alice and Wolfman are safe. That remaining slot is a gamble. Mabye Fighter for the showy hairstyles. MTV Girl for Life! I went with Barney because it apparently has old people makeup. The makeup branch LOVES old people makeup.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN:
Alice In Wonderland - Black Swan - Burlesque - The King's Speech - True Grit
Alt - The Tempest
Everyone is predicting Tempest, but I'm not feeling it. Which means it'll happen, of course. I don't think there's a surprise lurking here unless they go more modern and throw The Fighter or Inception in. Or even Tron?

BEST ART DIRECTION:
Alice In Wonderland - Inception - The King's Speech - Shutter Island - True Grit
Alt - Black Swan
Ugh, Alice In Wonderland will be nominated for four Oscars. What a shitfest. Swan has been nominated here at several other award shows, and while the use of black and white is clever, AMPAS has always been of the "more is better" school. So, again, maybe Tron?

BEST FILM EDITING:
127 Hours - Black Swan - The Fighter - Inception - The Social Network
Alt - True Grit
I don't see why King's Speech would show up here. But given its almost-frontrunner status, it probably will. Nevertheless, I'll be brave and ignore it. I think the only nomination potentional-Picture-nominee The Town deserves is here.

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY:
Black Swan - Inception - Shutter Island - The Social Network - True Grit
Alt - The King's Speech
Mabye 127 Hours?

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM:
Biutiful - Dogtooth - In a Better World - Incendies - Life Above All
Alt - Confessions
Like the music branch, this branch is really inconsistent and kinda braindead. So anything goes.

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:
Exit Through the Gift Shop - Inside Job - Restrepo - The Tillman Story - Waiting for 'Superman'
Alt - Client 9
I really hope Exit makes it in. Not many are predicting it because of it possibly being a hoax. I think that just makes it even better.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE:
How to Train Your Dragon - The Illusionist - Toy Story 3
Alt - Tangled
Feeling confident here. Then again, they snubbed The Simpsons Movie in favor of Surfs Up.

On to the big leagues...

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY:
127 Hours - The Social Network - Toy Story 3 - True Grit - Winter's Bone
Alt - The Town
Of all the top 8 categories, this one I feel is set in stone. 127 is the potential weakling, depending on how much they go for the film. That's followed by True Grit, if they get sick of the Coens. Hopefully, The Ghost Writer can surprise.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY:
Black Swan - Blue Valentine - Inception - The Kids Are All Right - The King's Speech
Alt - The Fighter
Kids, King's and Inception should be in. Most are predicting that trio, along with Black Swan and The Fighter. Something about the lineup just doesn't feel right. I went with Swan over Fighter because the latter feels more like an actor's movie. They're going to throw in a non-Picture nominee, and given the writers branch being favorable to indies the past couple of years, I'm going with Blue. (I just Blue myself.) Mike Leigh is a potential spoiler nominee for Another Year. In fact, I think that is more likely than Fighter. But, you know, play it safe. *fingers crossed for Nicole Holofcener!*

BEST DIRECTING:
Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
Christopher Nolan - Inception
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
David Fincher - The Social Network
Joel & Ethan Coen - True Grit
Alt - David O. Russell - The Fighter
I'm about the last person still predicting the Coens to make it in here. Everyone has swapped them for Russell. Its not that I think David O. has pissed too many people off or am sidelining his redemption. Dunno, just not feeling it. I'll regret it in the morning.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Christian Bale - The Fighter
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
John Hawkes - Winter's Bone
Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech
Alt - Jeremy Renner - The Town
Bale and Rush are in. Next - Ruffalo, maybe. I went with Hawkes just because he feels like that veteran that usually gets in here. Or is that Ruffalo? Or maybe Sam Rockwell for Conviction? Or Michael Douglas gets a sentimental nomination? I guess if they gave Penelope Cruz a nom the year after she won, its possible for Renner to repeat.

BEST ACTOR:
Javier Bardem - Biutiful
Jeff Bridges - True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
Alt - Robert Duvall - Get Low
Let me first say I'll cut a bitch if Jesse doesn't get nominated. Secondly, its really sad that Leo never got any traction for two of his best in Shutter Island and Inception. But they nominated him for that POS Blood Diamond? As for Bardem, well, he's been the VIP guest at how many screenings thrown by famous friends like Julia Roberts and Sean Penn? You want Penn and Roberts in your corner, and that should help him secure that last spot from the likes of Duvall, Mark Wahlberg or Ryan Gosling.

BEST ACTRESS & SUPPORTING ACTRESS.

I'll do these together with commentary first. This is a big clusterfuck and I think these are easily the most anticipated categories of the morning. This is nowhere near 2006 where both we're set long before Oscar morning. There's three big problems being thrown in here: Lesley Manville and Hailee Steinfeld and "cateogry fraud." At the start of the season, it seemed like Manville would not only be a leading nominee, but she had potential to win. As of this writing, she's only received a nod from BAFTA in supporting. Everyone who has seen the film is said to have loved her, but even they can't decide where she should be placed. Then, we have Hailee. Everyone who knows a thing about movies says its a crime she's being placed in supporting. She has more screentime than Jeff! But, she's a teenager and a total newcomer and Jeff's role is iconic, therefore she's supporting. (Awards bodies' mentality, not mine.) That's where she was nominated in most critics awards, as well as the Critics Choice and SAG. BAFTA placed her in lead, and she received a nod there. She was categorized as lead from the Globes, but didn't get nominated. Though that had more to do with their hatred for the film, it still didn't help. Now, AMPAS smartly put Kate Winslet in leading for The Reader after BAFTA did, despite her being nominated everywhere else in supporting. Similarly - and this is the best comparison - Keisha Castle Hughes was campaigned everywhere and got a SAG nod in supporting for Whale Rider, but AMPAS (smartly) nominated her in lead. Now, why does all this matter? Because in both categories, we have 3 nominees who appear to be safe, and then about 5-6 ladies trying to grab the remaining slots. It doesn't help when you have not one but two ladies who could show up in either category. Its only a small bit of help that Julianne Moore was campaigned from the start as leading in The Kids Are All Right and she was nominated there from BAFTA and the Globes. This might explain why everyone is suddently predicting her as that fifth actress, because - hey! - at least we know where she belongs.

For supporting actress, the two Fighter women and the Queen Mum look safe. Next up, Jacki Weaver. It seemed like she would be the critics darling, but she was only nominated at the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes after winning the NBR. She has the advantage of having the (large and growing) Australian film community behind her in a big way. Cate Blanchett won't shut up about her. And her film was the first FYC of the season, and whatever is usually gets a nomination. I'm predicting her. Next up, we have the supporting women of Black Swan - Mila Kunis and Barbara Hershey. Mila was nominated by the Critics Choice, SAG and Golden Globes. Her ubiquity is a huge plus, and she's been steadily working since ending That 70's Show. Most will say that her role is little more than a sex bomb. Honestly, I have no idea if that helps her or hurts her. LOL. Hershey, nominated only by BAFTA, has the more traditionally nominated role. Unlike The Fighter women, I think Mila and Barbara will cancel each other out. Finally, given that for the past 3 years, we've seen nominees in acting categories that got very little to no precursor attention, here's hoping Ghost Writer's Olivia Williams might just pull a Michael Shannon/Maggie Gyllenhaal/Tommy Lee Jones/Laura Linney.

For leading actress, Portman and Bening have nothing to worry about. Jennifer Lawrence is almost there, though she missed the BAFTA nom. One of the more disappointing aspects of this award season is how little the press seems interested in her. She's playing Mystique in the next X-Men movie, and she's hot as fuck for Christ's sakes. But, you know OMG NATALIE PREGNANCY. You'd think they want to catch the NEXT BIG THING just before it happens. In fourth is Nicole Kidman. Overdue for her third nom, she just might not get that call tomorrow morning. Sadly. She missed at BAFTA and some think she was probably barely in for SAG. (In the past, they didn't seem to like her.) As the days approached tomorrow's announcement, she started disappearing from some predictions. There's a comparison to Angelina Jolie in A Mighty Heart that might end up being true. Her film seems to have very little support outside her performance. However, I don't feel there's a strong enough replacement for her. She may not have ecstatic supporters for this performance, but it should be broad. And then we get to that last slot. EW has gone with Michelle Williams. Many others have too, as its Blue Valentine's best shot at a major nom and I think everyone is starting to acknowledge that Michelle just might be the actress of her generation. If she's not in this year, she has two major films next year that should get there. If they aren't saying Michelle, they're saying Julianne. But, there's still some more ladies lurking in the wings. Hilary Swank scored a (surprise!) SAG nod, and I'm sure the press will have fun pitting her against Annette again while ignoring Jennifer and not shutting up about baby Black Swan. Lastly, while everyone is drooling in anticipation over those pics of Rooney Mara as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, the original actress - Noomi Rapace - showed up in both BAFTA and Critics Choice Awards. She reportedly hired Marion Cotillard's publicist, and has been the topic of many magazine articles as she's about to hit Hollywood in a big way: starring in the Sherlock Holmes sequel and an Alien prequel. As for Halle Berry, she should be lucky she got the Globe nod. Her film was recently pulled from the release schedule, so even she gave up on it.

So here we go:

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom
Alt - Mila Kunis - Black Swan

BEST ACTRESS:
Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
Alt - Noomi Rapace - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

And finally...

BEST PICTURE:
127 Hours
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone
Alt - The Town

I think 8 are safe, and 127, Winter's and The Town are fighting for the last 2 slots. Last year felt a little more open, with 2-3 on the outside looking in. But last year also gave us Best Picture Nominee The Blind Side. I don't know what the equivalent would be for this year? Secretariat? Or maybe all those screenings Julia and Sean were shoving down peoples throats will get Biutiful a nod? And I do wonder if they keep this 10 nominees up, how long will it be before a film scores a nom for Best Picture and nothing else.

Good luck with your dix!

LOL - It took me forever to publish this. I didn't want to make it official. Ugh, everyone is now putting Steinfeld in lead. Such a clusterfuck. I don't think I've ever had such difficulty predicting the acting categories. I'm not terribly confidant in any of them. Ah well...

Razzie Nominees

Pretty awful, really? They neglected Skyline everywhere and that was one of the most panned movies of the past several years. Instead, they starfuck worse (slightly different) than the Golden Globes. Its particularly discouraging that they lump a small movie like The Killer Inside Me with Jessica Alba's trash.

ANNE HATHAWAY IS CATWOMAN!.........and best dressed at the Golden Globes!

So sayeth Warner Brothers and me.

Anne wasn't in my top 10 choices for the role (Emily Blunt, Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams or Vera Farmiga would be my preferences) but, as you can tell from my previous posts, I love Miss Hathaway. So I'm very happy with this news. In fact, there was a smile plastered on my face for a few minutes after I read it. Hathaway will join Tom Hardy (yum) as the new cast members in The Dark Knight Rises in July of 2012. Though its been unconfirmed, there still is said to be another female role in the film that hasn't been cast. We'll see.

The fanboys seemed to want Scarlett Johansson or Eva Green for the role. I could never picture either being able to play the character, Johansson because her looks are too obviously bombshell and Green because I don't believe she's actually that talented.

Also, here is my list of best and worst dressed at the Golden Globes.

BEST
1. Anne Hathaway - the most fashion forward of the night and a genuine movie star look, this is probably one of my fave things she's ever worn and that IS saying a lot
2. Olivia Wilde - I wish the hair had been different but the dress and shoes are insane
3. Nicole Kidman - perfection, her face and the dress
4. Emma Stone - so fresh and nice seeing an ingenue not having her cleavage hanging out, though I preferred her look at the Critics Choice Awards
5. Hailee Steinfeld - tennis hair, I know, but really cute and I like that she didn't go too precious as many child actors occasionally do
Honorable Mentions: Catherine Zeta-Jones, Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lawrence, Vanessa Williams

Worst:
1. Sandra Bullock - terrible bangs, dumb dress
2. Leighton Meester - she's a pretty girl, why does she go out of her way to look terrible?
3. Halle Berry - I'm sorry, this isn't a dress
Dishonorable Mentions: Michelle Williams, Piper Perabo, Julie Bowen, Jayma Mays, Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez

Box Office: Natalie Portman in Another Movie With a That 70's Show Cast Member

Ivan Reitman directed No Strings Attached? And Kevin Kline is in it? Meanwhile, Peter Weir's The Way Back gets a very odd release in about 600 theatres after an Oscar qualifying weekend back in December. I never understand the point of releasing movies like that. Its the art house equivalent of a dump. There's two movies next week and two movies the following week, so the Oscar quartet should have minimal drops or possible bumps the next several weeks. Yogi Bear will enjoy having the market to itself. Its really strange there are no kids/family movies opening till Gnomeo and Juliet or Justin Bieber: Never Say Never on Feb 11th. And even those will have the market to themselves till March.

1. No Strings Attached - $19m / $19m / $60m
2. The Green Hornet - $18m / $64m / $104m
3. The Dilemma - $9m / $33m / $55m
4. True Grit - $8m / $139m / $170m
5. The King's Speech - $7.5m / $100m
6. Black Swan - $6.5m / $84m / $112m
7. Little Fockers - $4.5m / $141m / $156m
8. Yogi Bear - $4.3m / $89m / $104m
9. The Fighter - $3.9m / $72.5m / $92m
10. Tron: Legacy - $3.4m / $163m / $172m
**The Way Back - $2m / $2m / $7m

GOLDEN GLOBE RANDOM THOUGHTS

OMG I love you Ricky Gervais. I couldn't tell if the audience was trying to contain their laughter when they cut to random people of it they were really mad. AWESOME! Especially The Tourist stuff.

CHRISTIAN BALE proves to be a classy winner, if a bit long. Good job.

KATEY SAGAL. Man, I was really happy for her. She was my ALT, and I've never seen Sons of Anarchy, but I was still elated she won.

Damn, I shouldn't have switched CARLOS to The Pacific. Julianne Moore is kissing all the winners. Aww. WTF was Robert Pattinson doing when the camera panned by him.

Ashton Kutcher's dad, Bruce Willis. Awesome, Ricky.

EWWW Leighton Meester's dress. Garrett Hedlund's voice - is that how he talks? Kinda sexy, kinda scary.

CHRIS COLFER!!!!!!!!! LOL THE WHOLE CAST OF GLEE IS CRYING. AMAZING SPEECH, I'M IN TEARS.

OMFG Michelle Pfeiffer stills look GORG. too bad she's presenting Alice In Wonderland.

LOL Ricky's joke about the HFPA prez. Eva Longoria got her girls out bigtime. LOL the prez takes the HFPA so seriously.

FUCK Milla Jovovich looks phenemenol. STEVE BUSCEMI wins. Kelly MacDonald is so pretty. Steve's speech was sweet.

BOARDWALK EMPIRE takes Drama series. I love Milla poses on stage.

OMFG Angelina was just fixing Brad's tie. SEE THEY'RE JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.

Andrew Garfield - so cute. Tongue tied and cute. OMG Jennifer Lopez's dress is horrendous.

I'm OMGing a lot tonight sorry. BURLESQUE song takes song. Diane Warren is a hot mess. I've never seen her before?

SOCIAL NETWORK TAKES SCORE. Awesome. LOL Nine Inch Nails singer is a Golden Globe winner.

OMG (sorry i know) I JUST SAW EMMA STONE AND SHE LOOKS AMAZING!!! IN PINK!!!!!

LOL Hailee Steinfeld has fake hair. Ewww Bieber, but he did alright. ANIMATED FEATURE goes to TOY STORY 3. Heather Morris is sitting next to Jennifer Love Hewitt. They are just doing random pans throughout the room and its funny to see who is sitting near whom. Who/whom whichever. Gabourey Sidibe is there? Oh, for The Big C. Eva Longoria was with Zac Efron, nice.

Robert Downey Jr - LOL RICKY'S JOKES ABOUT HIM ARE AWESOME. Robert is really funny and LOL at Emma Stone being a great sport. I'd give it to all five of you. OMFG THIS IS AWESOME! I hope Bening is better this time with her speech. (GO EMMA) ANNETTE BENING WINS. Big hug to Julianne. Aww they kissed on the lips. LOL random cut to Jane Lynch. SHE'S GETTING A STANDING O?????

Okay, Annette. NOW THAT IS FUCKING HOW YOU DO A SLIGHTLY MEMORIZED SPEECH. WONDERFUL JOB, COMPLETELY TURNAROUND FROM LAST TIME. Really beautiful and it was like a nice summary of her really good film. BRAVO!

Sylvester Stallone presents The Fighter. Gee, I thought he'd present Burlesque.

TILDA SWINTON & GEOFFREY RUSH - OMG i want them to mate and see their child. LOL - Tilda says Happy New Year. AL PACINO - TV MOVIE/MINISERIES wins. And gets a standing O. He gets one everytime? Ugh.

LOL what is with these random cuts to random people in the audience? Someone just commented on another forum its like they are testing to see who is awake.

Let me say this is a really good GLOBES so far. And I haven't even touched a drop of alcohol.

LOL @ Tilda over pronouncing everything. LOL I wanted Jennifer Love Hewitt to win cuz that would have been awesome seeing Tilda on stage with her. But CLAIRE DANES wins. and Temple Grandin is there. CLAIRE DANES kisses Geoffrey Rush. Now its bothering me what they worked on?

Zac Efron presents The Kids Are All Right.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell present SCREENPLAY. AND ARE HILARIOUS. THE SOCIAL NETWORK WINS. I typed that before it won. There's ARMIE HAMMER.

CHRIS HEMSWORTH and CHRIS EVANS present together. Dear God, please fuck on stage. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. they present Supporting Actress TV - LOL THAT WAS NOT JULIA STILES. SOME RANDOM OLD WOMAN. JANE LYNCH WINS!!!!!! Aww, she kissed Sofia on the way up. HAHAHAHA She just made a shoutout to the Lea-Hailee incident. Funny speech.

JAKE GYLLENHAAL AND MICHELLE WILLIAMS WERE JUST TALKING. AWWW HEATH SHOULD BE THERE WITH THEM!!! CRY!!!!

Olivia Wilde and a good looking Robert Pattinson present FOREIGN FILM to Susanne Bier. She's really good looking. I've never seen her?

Helen Mirren presents THE KING'S SPEECH.

OMG The Globes need to cut that god damn same every year theme music.

Wow Vanessa Williams is fierce. Her and Blair Underwood present TV Actress - Comedy. It goes to LAURA LINNEY who is not there!

Jane Fonda introduces BURLESQUE

Matt Bomer (GAAAAAYYYY!) and Kaley Cuoco present TV ACTOR - COMEDY to JIM PARSONS.

JEREMY IRONS presents SUPPORTING ACTRESS FILM. To a Fighter, I'm guessing. MELISSA LEO takes it. LOL The Walking Dead/Prison Break actress was giving her a standing O. LOL I keep seeing a Olivia Wilde deathstare behind people.

Melissa Leo knows how to liven things up. HBC looked confused?

LOL Jake Gyllenhaal is sitting next to Zeta-Jones. Matt Damon comes out to present Robert De Niro with the Red Buttons Lifetime Acheivement Award For Dramatic Musical Comedy. Angelina Jolie just put on lip gloss while Temple Grandin was about to go to sleep. ROBERT DE NIRO did not take that seriously at all, and got in some old timey wisecracks. Felt kinda nice. LOL @ the fockers jab. Then cut to Angelina who looked oddly pissed by it? That was like Robert De Niro roasted himself.

LOL Okay so Megan Fox gets to present The Tourist. She probably doesn't even deserve that.

Annette Bening presents DIRECTOR to DAVID FINCHER.

(Allow to give me a special shoutout to my pal ANGIE who loves David Fincher and Darren Aronofsky. HI ANGIE!)

David Fincher came off really nice.

January Jones and Jimmy Fallon present COMEDY/MUSICAL series to GLEE. Fuck. I "like" Glee but it hasn't been anywhere near its potential. Modern Family deserved this.

LMAO Alicia Keys presents BLACK SWAN.

Halle Berry is wearing lingerie. She's presenting the night's biggest joke: lead actor in a comedy/musical. PAUL GIAMATTI wins. This should be fun. He swears and we lose sound for like 15 seconds. OMG this is sorta awesome. Aww Jake is so hot. Good speech by Giamatti.

Kidman's lips look amazing. She looks so natural again. I LOVE IT.

LOL @ Mila Kunis and Emma Stone jumping in excitement at whatever.

Haley Atwell looks freakishly like Neve Campbell.

JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT presents INCEPTION. LOVE YOU JGL.

I'm really sick of these clips just being trailer segments.

JEFF BRIDGES presents BEST ACTRESS DRAMA. (to Natpo) I hope she gives a good speech. LOL You can see in Halle's eyes she thinks her nom is a joke. Kidman looks great. Lawrence is HAUTE. Williams has become the actress of her generation, and Natalie wins it and looks very nervous. No standing O? That's kinda telling. Fuck Natalie's laugh was like scary? Hmm. Dunno, not a great speech and kinda shakey at the start.

RICKY IS BACK!!!! LOL his introduction of Tim Allen. Tim and Tom Hanks present COMEDY/MUSICAL. GO TOURIST! KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT WINS. Bening looks so happy and exuberant. Share it, Annette.

Ricky's intro of SANDRA BULLOCK. She looks horrid. Pretty, but horrid. ACTOR DRAMA. Hey, there's James Franco. COLIN FIRTH wins. ROBUST TRIANGLE OF MANLOVE. Can I get one of those with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Gosling? Firth's wife is pretty. It was pointed out to me that Gosling and Bullock used to date. HMMMM.

ONE MORE AWARD LEFT!!!!

LOL RDJ giving Michael Douglas a fist whoop. He gets one of two standing O's of the night. MOTION PICTURE DRAMA GOES TO THE SOCIAL NETWORK. WOOT WOOT..LOL Jesse reall wanted to get out of that Kevin Spacey hug. ARMIE HAMMER. Wait, why did Armie get to go up but Andrew and Jesse are still sitting down. LOL Scott Rudin thinks so, too.

Are they attempting to cut him off despite there still being 3 minutes left? WTF.

LOL RICKY CLOSES THE EVENING WITH AN ATHEIST JOKE. NICE.

Well, these were actually great? Good speeches, solid winners and some pretty memorable hilarious GLOBE moments.

As for best dressed, I'm leaning towards Anne Hathaway, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde and some others. I'll make it official later in the week. Thanks for reading, please comment with your clever GLOBE thoughts.

NIGHT EVERYONE!

I'll be dreaming of my manlove triangle with Jesse Eisenberg and Armie Hammer.

Golden Globe Red Carpet: Live Random Thoughts

Let's hope we get another epic Julia Roberts moment like last year. "Who's Natalie?"

I'm watching E! for the first hour then switching over to the official NBC coverage.

+Temple Grandin is apparently there. I hope she gets drunk.
+E!s coverage begins with Pink's Raise Your Glass. I wonder if that'll be the song that kicks off the Globes' show.
+Yah, its not raining like last year.
+Olivia Wilde is the first celebrity here (AGAIN!) and looks really great but over the top. Her hair is way too plain though. Gorgeous girl.
+I miss Joan Rivers doing this.
+Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco (sp?) looking pretty good as well. Obvious hair extentions.
+Sad that I can't flip to TV Guide channel. They are no longer doing red carpet?
+Sarah Hyland and Mila Kunis could be sisters.
+LOL The E! people were talking about everyone being pregnant, then could barely name two people that were. (Portman, Cotillard and Krakowski)
+Hailee Steinfeld looks good. Tennis hair, though! Damn it, tennis hair!
+LOL GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEE JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT IN THE HOUSE!
+J.Lo-Hew's dress is pretty good. But she's orange which does not go well with that color.
+JENNIFER LAWRENCE looks pretty great. That guy on E! just said she was a saloon girl. Stay classy, E!
+Chris Hemsworth is hot. And sounds exactly like Sam Worthington.
+Julia Stiles looks pretty.
+MARK SALLING!!!! YUM. He seems really subdued.
+Jenna Ushkowitz (sp?) from Glee looks good.
+Jayma Mays 0 holy shit she's thin!
+Did Elisabeth Moss and Annette Bening just get out of the same limo?
+LOL Is Baldwin stoned?
+Amber Riley looks good.
+PIPER PERABO!!!!!!
+Dianna Agron (sp?) from Glee is so classically beautiful. just a lovely looking girl.
+Elisabeth Moss and Keira Knightley are lezzing out on the london stage in The Children's Hour?
+Moss looks pretty.
+Ryan's "girlfriend" Julianna Hough looks okay.
+HBC IN DA HOUSE! you know tim burton says that at the start of every movie.
+NATPO!!!!! FAB HAIR.
+Melissa Leo looking good.
+Piper is soooooooo thin. She looks pretty bad.
+Julie Bowen does not look that great. The color is too drab. LOL @ the Modern Family people interviewing each other. This is so much better than the E! people.
+JAKE GYLLENHAAL
+HBC - OMG THIS IS EPIC. I freaking love her hilarious look
+NIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
+Lea Michelle looks OKAY. You can tell what a bitch she is.
+LOL someone just said Natalie Portman looks like a cupcake. So true.
+SWITCHING TO NBC OFFICIALLY SHOW
LOL WHO'S NATALIE?
+E! was obsessing a bit much over the Glee cast.
+NBC's coverage isn't as awful-fun as E!
+Still haven't seen: Anne Hathaway, Emma Stone, Angelina Jolie, Michelle Williams, Sofia Vergara
+Alec Baldwin just said he thinks Rooney Mara is great.
+Nicole Kidman looks beautiful in Prada.
+LOL HBC I really love her and can't wait to see her Oscar dress.
+Ewwww Sandra bullock looks not very good and her bangs are totes fake.
+Chris Colfer on Glee: "The show never really knows where its going." GEE REALLY?
+UGH THAT AWFUL BIEBER THING IS HERE.
+OMFG MILA KUNIS LOOKS AMAZING - I told a friend I bet Mila would be best dressed at the Oscars, I may be on to something.
+JESSE EISENBERG!!!!! So adorkable. Love him.
+Catherine Zeta-Jones looks pretty terrific too.
+Julianne Moore is so lovely.
+Jake Gyllenhaal is classy, still rockin the sexy beard.
+Does Christina Agulera actively try to look like a tranny?
+God, Justin Bieber is such a douchbag. His fame can't end soon enough.
+Ewww Angelina looks like something in a cheap aquarium.
+Tina Fey looking about the same as usual is talking about how hot Halle Berry looks.
+LOL she just said ANNE HATHAWAY IS HERE Y'ALL.
+Hmm on Scarjo looks. Kinda odd, but interesting.
+January Jones always pulls straight off the runway and I really admire her for it. I think she looks pretty.
+Amy Adams looking okay, that thing is huge though, pretty blue color. She should probably tell Nicole Kidman to stop stealing her DNA.
+Ryan Gosling - sexy, yes please.
+Colin Firth is here..zzzzzzzzzzz.
+Busy Phillips and Michelle Williams in the background while Halle Berry walks by. Not liking the look of the three.
+Sofia Vergara so bubbly and fantastic.
+Helen Mirren's hair looks awesome.
+Claire Danes wearing hot pink. God my tv makes it look orange-red.
+It is still weird to hear Christian Bale with his real accent.
+Not a fan of Michelle Williams dress.
+Damn it - still haven't seen Hathaway, Emma Stone or Tilda Swinton.
+ANNE!!! OMG That's how you do an 80's look correctly, Angelina.
+Robert Downey Jr is apparently shitfaced trashed drunk.
+Carrie Underwood is wearing Claire Danes' Emmy dress.
+OMFG I LOVE ANNE'S DRESS!!!!! A BIG RISK AND SHE PULLED IT OFF.
+LOL @ Tilda.

Okay, that's it for my red carpet coverage. I'll be checking in every now and then during the show. Have fun everybody!

Golden Globe Predix!

I'll do TV First:

TV -

Supporting Actor - All TV
Winner: Chris Colfer - Glee

Alternate: Eric Stonestreet - Modern Family
I think David Strathairn might be at an advantage given he's the only nominee here from a TV movie. But I think that Colfer makes the most sense, as he's Glee's best shot at a win. My own vote would probably go to Stonestreet. I'd love to vote for Colfer, but he - like a lot of the cast of Glee - is occasionally hindered by the uneven writing.

Supporting Actress - All TV
Winner: Sofia Vergara - Modern Family

Alternate: Jane Lynch - Glee
Like Colfer, Vergara has been a huge breakout star. Lynch should have won last year, and could take this. I'd vote for Sofia because of the Halloween episode and her hilarious "proper American accent."

Actress - TV Movie/Miniseries
Winner: Claire Danes - Temple Grandin

Alternate: Romola Garai - Emma
Danes will have this easy squeezie. I'm sure Jennifer Love Hewitt is very happy about her nomination playing a hooker.

Actor - TV Movie/Miniseries
Winner: Al Pacino - You Don't Know Jack

Alternate: Edgar Ramirez - Carlos
Originally, I went with Edgar. Carlos was extremely well reviewed and seems to have hit at the right time. But it's Al Pacino. As Jack Kevorkian.

TV Movie/Miniseries
Winner: The Pacific

Alternate: Carlos
The umpteenth WWII movie from Spielberg/Hanks, so I'll go with that. The only one here that won't win is Pillars of the Earth.

Actor - Comedy
Winner: Jim Parsons - The Big Bang Theory
Alternate: Steve Carell - The Office
I don't see anyone else being strong enough to take down Parsons. In the past, the Globes have (smartly) given CBS comedies the cold shoulder, so that could allow one of NBC's Thursday night boys to take it. In particlar, the one that is leaving soon.

Actress - Comedy
Winner: Edie Falco - Nurse Jackie

Alternate: Laura Linney - The Big C
Linney could easily get this, but her show was supposed to be terrible. Collette won last year so that gives Falco the edge.

TV - Comedy
Winner: Modern Family

Alternate: Glee
Keep in mind they gave Desperate Housewives a win during its maligned second season, so Glee could repeat. But I doubt it. At least I'm hoping Modern takes it.

Actor - Drama
Winner: Bryan Cranston - Breaking Bad

Alternate: Steve Buscemi - Boardwalk Empire
The other three nominees have all won. Cranston winning everywhere else should give him the advantage.

Actress - Drama
Winner: Julianna Margulies - The Good Wife

Alternate: Katey Sagal - Sons of Anarchy
I think a few people predicted Elisabeth Moss. Julianna should repeat, no problems. I went with Katey as the alternate because it could be the much buzzed about performance that no other group honors, but the Globes do. I doubt Piper Perabo will win. LOL.

TV - Drama
Winner: Boardwalk Empire

Alternate: Mad Men
Scorsese's HBO hit should be the show that finally trumps Mad Men.

FILM!

Original Song
Winner: "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" - Burlesque

Alternate: "I See the Light" - Tangled
I went with the Cher/Diana Warren ballad.

Original Score
Winner: Inception

Alternate: The Social Network
This allows them to give the megahit at least one win.

Foreign Language Film
Winner: Biutiful

Alternate: I Am Love
Go with the most famous title.

Animated Feature
Winner: Toy Story 3

Alternate: How to Train Your Dragon
I really didn't need to put an alternate, did I?

Supporting Actor
Winner: Christian Bale - The Fighter

Alternate: Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech
Unless they get really sentimental and starfucky and give it to Douglas. But Bale should be a done deal.

Supporting Actress
Winner: Melissa Leo - The Fighter

Alternate: Amy Adams - The Fighter
Many of us awards predictors keep going back and forth on this category. Adams has two previous nominations here, and that's why I gave her the win at first. However, Leo seems to have been building buzz.

Screenplay
Winner: The Social Network

Alternate: The King's Speech
If they want to spread the wealth a bit, King's or Inception could take it. Wait, this is screenplay? No, Sorkin's winning. Sorry haters.

Actor - Comedy/Musical
Winner: Johnny Depp - Alice in Wonderland

Alternate: Paul Giamatti - Barney's Version
Or Gyllenhaal. Weird that this is Jake's first nom from the Globes? This category is such a joke. I honestly don't care. Anyways, Depp is supporting and Alice is a shitlog. I really can't believe Jim Carrey wasn't nominated?

Actress - Comedy/Musical
Winner: Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right

Alternate: Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
Allow me a tangent: both Bening and Moore should be supporting as just about everyone in Kids has the same amount of screentime. It is possible that Moore could take this given Bening has won before and Julianne has been nominated many times but never won. I think its closer than people think. Personally, I'd give it to Emma Stone. But whatevs.

Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical
Winner: The Kids Are All Right

Alternate: Alice In Wonderland
The only reason I put an alternate here is because Avatar and The Hangover won last year. Ugh, remember that? Kids should take this in a cakewalk.

Director
Winner: David Fincher - The Social Network

Alternate: Christopher Nolan - Inception
I had Darren as the alternative, but I think they like to do splits here and Nolan made more sense? Fincher should be safe, though.

Actor - Drama
Winner: Colin Firth - The King's Speech

Alternate: James Franco - 127 Hours
Watch out for Jesse if Social goes over big. Colin will walk up onstage and be like DID I STUTTER?

Actress - Drama
Winner: Natalie Portman - Black Swan

Alternate: Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
J.Law is probably not far behind Kidman. SWEET GIRL is safe. It would be hilarious if Halle won. Given their noms this year, that wouldn't be a surprise.

Motion Picture - Drama
Winner: The Social Network

Alternate: The King's Speech
King is what they love: period, British and Harvey. If Social does win, it should be smooth sailing all the way to Oscar.

Canadian Scream 4 Full Trailer

Happy 3 months to go everybody!

With that in mind, the Canadian Scream 4 trailer is now online. A lot of people have had difficulty playing it, and it was pretty choppy (no pun intended) for me. That being said, what I saw looked and sounded great. The dialogue has a nice snap to it, and I was surprised just how comedic it looked. The Dewey/Gale "it is?" bit, in particular, was hilarious. I'd say the first third of the trailer almost made it look like a comedy. My fave bit of the entire thing was Hayden naming every horror remake she could. She named some even I forgot. Looks like the big focus of the film will be the endless amount of remakes in recent years. With this arrival, the American full trailer shouldn't be far off. If this one hits YouTube or has an easier to play version, I'll post it.

One more thing: RED. RIGHT. HAND.

ETA:

Ok, It is on Youtube: Here's the link:

Hopefully, its on for awhile.

Box: I eat my words over Black Swan's performance

I didn't have any catchy titles relating to The Green Hornet or The Dilemma. Remember when January was the dumping ground for all-out duds or okay teen movies that did modest business? It seems we've replaced them with mixed reviewed semi-blockbusters. Black Swan continues to be the "it movie", even hitting #2 on Tuesday. It will be in 2000 theatres this weekend, perfect timing for the Golden Globes and Oscar noms in less than two weeks. In the end, it will cross $100 million. I think The King's Speech, which is also getting a nice theatre count increase this weekend, has a slim shot at crossing the century mark given its expansion and great word of mouth. A big help to both (as well as True Grit and The Fighter) is that every weekend up until the second in February will only see two movies released. Despite the terrific performance of the awards fare, Rabbit Hole is struggling in limited. Even with a boost from Nicole's inevitable Oscar nom, it won't cross $3 million.

(all projected weekend grosses are three day)

1. The Green Hornet - $28m / $28m / $80m
2. The Dilemma - $20m / $20m / $60m
3. True Grit - $9.5m / $124.5m / $160m
4. Black Swan - $7.5m / $72m / $106m
5. Little Fockers - $7m / $134m / $158m
6. The King's Speech - $6m / $41.5m / $90m
7. Tron Legacy - $5.5m / $156.5m / $174m
8. Season of the Witch - $5.5m / $19m / $34m
9. The Fighter - $5m / $65.5m / $90m
10. Yogi Bear - $5m / $81.5m / $100m

Scream 4 Screened for Some Unknown Reason...

...or did it?

I've held off on posting this - shocker, I know! - but Scream 4 actually screened in Pittsburg this past Thursday. Maybe? I was going to hold off posting anything about the film till Saturday (3 months to go!) when by then I was hoping to report that someone from the cast will be working the red carpet at the Golden Globes. *fingers crossed* Guess I couldn't wait. Anywho, yes, according to many reliable sources the entire film was shown to an audience. The main question many have is why exactly this happened? Theories point to them testing the film with different endings to see which one plays best. To buy that you have to believe that they filmed completely different ending sequences and its never been reported anywhere that they did. Other possible reasons are that they thought the contracts they had present would be enough to keep everyone honest or that they feel they have a strong enough product that they want to use this to build buzz. As every website that has carried this news will say, why would you screen a film this early when one of the biggest parts of the film is the whodunit angle?

Now, if you visit the film's IMDB message boards - and I strongly recommend you don't - you'll find a few people claiming that they were part of the audience. Perfectly enough, they say they won't spoil anything because of the strict confidentiality agreements they signed. Or that they weren't there. Whichever.

All that leads to this: just what did the more reliable seeming early reviews say about the film. A few recurring snippets:

+far and away the most violent of the series, lots of brutal kills
+the opening sequence is probably the most violent part of the film and is really clever and funny (SPOILER: it involes ALL six girls that were announced late in production)
+easily better than Scream 3, some say better than Scream 2 if they thought it was lesser than the first film
+Neve and Courteney are great but David seemed a bit off
+Gale is back to her old self (YES PLEASE!)
+the new cast is very good, with one exception - they seem to be leaning towards Hayden Panettiere or Marielle Jaffe - no one would confirm who it is
+the film was finished with the exception of a few effects shots and no ending credits
+the ending plays out too long
+it ran about 110 minutes

Regarding the ending being too long, I remember certain adults telling me this about the first film when I was just a thirteen year old Darren. But they were wrong! So whatevs.

So that is that. It could also be that the film didn't screen at all and Dimension is sending out fake information to throw people off.

Also, its been announced that Anchor Bay/Starz will be releasing the film on DVD/Bluray. Since The Weinstein Company and Dimension no longer have a home video distributor, they've been letting Sony release most of their stuff for about the past year. Its also believed that Anchor Bay will also be releasing the original trilogy on Bluray at some point this year. YES PLEASE.

DGA Predix

Announcing Monday...

Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
Joel and Ethan Coen - True Grit
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan - Inception

Alt - David O'Russell - The Fighter

I think Hooper is probably on shakiest ground. Its kinda tricky guessing if the Academy still had five Best Pic nominees if these would be the chosen five. I just hope the Academy doesn't screw over Nolan again.

PGA & WGA Predix

They announce Tuesday, kicking off 2011.

WGA:
As usual, numerous screenplays have been ruled ineligible. They include: Winter's Bone, The King's Speech, Toy Story 3 and Another Year.

Adapted Screenplay:
127 Hours - Rabbit Hole - The Social Network - The Town - True Grit
Alt: Shutter Island
This is the five everyone is predicting. Outside of Island, there really is no other alternative.

Original Screenplay:
Black Swan - The Fighter - Inception - The Kids Are All Right - Please Give
Alt: Greenberg
I'd say the first four are locked. The last spot will probably go to an indie (the aforementioned two, Get Low or Somewhere), or even Easy A. I went with the very deserving Holofcener because she deserves it.

PGA:
The question is how closely will these resemble Oscar's ten. Last year, they were only one off - PGA nominated Star Trek while the Oscar's chose The Blind Side. Looking back, its very surprising The Blind Side didn't show up here given how huge a success it was.

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
The Town
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone

Alt - 127 Hours

Though given these are producers, blockbusters like Harry Potter 7, Shutter Island or How To Train Your Dragon could be in the running.
