1. Little Fockers - $24m / $100m / $165m
2. True Grit - $22m / $83m / $150m
3. Tron Legacy - $17.5m / $129m / $180m
4. Yogi Bear - $13m / $66m / $100m
5. Chronicles of Narnia - $10m / $87m / $118m
6. Tangled - $9.5m / $167m / $194m
7. Gulliver's Travels - $9m / $26.5m / $54m
8. Black Swan - $8.5m / $47m / $80m
9. The Fighter - $8m / $44m / $70m
10. The King's Speech - $6m / $20.5m / $70m
11. The Tourist - $5m / $51m / $64m
12. How Do You Know - $4m / $22.5m / $33m
13. Harry Potter - $3.5m / $282m / $292m
Fockers opened slightly soft but will still gross a hundred million more than it deserves to. True Grit's stronger than expected showing could lead to it being #1 this weekend or even next weekend. Great to see audiences going for it, Black Swan, Fighter and King's Speech.

Christmas Box: Fock That Shit
1. Little Fockers - $30m / $48m / $145m
2. Tron: Legacy - $20m / $88.5m / $160m
3. True Grit - $17m / $26m / $100m
4. Gulliver's Travels - $12m / $12m / $80m
5. Yogi Bear - $11m / $39m / $90m
6. The Fighter - $7.5m / $26.5m / $65m
7. Chronicles of Narnia - $7m / $60m / $95m
8. Black Swan - $6.5m / $29m / $62m
9. Tangled - $6m / $143m / $172m
10. How Do You Know - $3.5m / $15m / $28m
11. Harry Potter - $3.5m / $273.5m / $290m
12. The King's Speech - $3m / $6.5m / $70m
13. The Tourist - $3m / $38.5m / $52m
Final totals are hard to gage because of holiday legs and award season. Fockers is getting ripped apart by critics (judging by the ads rightfully so) and I'm hoping that it does have an effect on the film's gross. When there are this many well reviewed films out in wide release, a piece of shit like that deserves to be ignored. King's Speech expands to about 700 screens on Saturday, though its getting nowhere near the buzz Black Swan has. However, it also will get an Oscar boost in late January through February, so its final tally should be bigger than Swan.

SAG DIX!
Male Actor in a Leading Role:
Jeff Bridges - True Grit
Robert Duvall - Get Low
Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
Alt: Ryan Gosling - Blue Valentine
Pretty confident in these. Wahlberg could show up.
Female Actor in a Leading Role:
Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
Alt: Julianne Moore - Te Kids Are All Right
I guess Halle Berry might have a shot here. Lesley Manville's biggest roadblock is that SPC hasn't sent out screeners and has the release date so late. Michelle's advantage is that her film played at Sundance and BV seems like the type of movie actors love. Something else on the mind is that SAG doesn't seem to like Nicole Kidman very much, which could work to Julianne Moore's advantage.
Male Actor in a Supporting Role:
Christian Bale - The Fighter
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
Jeremy Renner - The Town
Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech
Alt - John Hawkes - Winter's Bone
I was predicting Hawkes (instead of Renner) for the longest time, but Jeremy has shown up just about everywhere he needs to and has is as much of an industry vet as someone under 40 can be. Also: Sam Rockwell. Conviction seems like one of those random movies that do well here.
Female Actor in a Supporting Role:
Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom
Alt: Mila Kunis - Black Swan
If there is an out of nowhere surprise, it'll be here. Maybe.
Ensemble:
The Fighter
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
The Social Network
The Town
Alt - Winter's Bone
With Inception just barely being my Alt, I'm not so certain about The King's Speech. I haven't heard much about the non-Firth/Carter/Rush actors, if there even are any. Could be a Michael Clayton situation where 3 actors get nominated but the ensemble doesn't.
As for TV, once again: Community and Parks and Recreation. Make it happen, SAG. Two of the best ensembles on TV!

Pre-Christmas Box: Did anyone see Tron? No. No. No.
1. Tron: Legacy - $36m / $36m / $150m
2. Yogi Bear - $24m / $24m / $130m
3. The Fighter - $12m / $12m / $70m
4. Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader - $11m / $41.5m / $96m
5. How Do You Know - $8m / $8m / $30m
6. Tangled - $8m / $127m / $162m
7. The Tourist - $7.5m / $30m / $54m
8. Black Swan - $7m / $14.5m / $50m
9. Harry Potter - $4.5m / $265.5m / $284m
10. Unstoppable - $2m / $77.5m / $86m
Black Swan continues to impress in limited and has its wide release bumped up to this weekend. I know I've stated umpteen times that once it goes wide, it's done, but it still should pull in a very respectable amount. I'm attributing audiences being bored by the stale multiplex product to the film's success. Speaking of stale products, Yogi Bear could find itself doing Alvin and the Chipmunks-lite numbers. Sad. I could have sworn I heard the original Tron was a huge bomb, so why we're getting a sequel decades later is questionable. It might bode well that modern audiences don't know that this is a sequel and the film's marketing has been slick. And a week after The Tourist bombed (but got three Golden Globe nods!) Sony delivers another megabomb. How Do You Know cost $120 million and I'm predicting it will barely make a third of that. Lastly, The Fighter begins what should be a leggy run.

Globe Commentary, Reactions, Blah Blah

LOL @ Katie Holmes having to read both Nicole Kidman and Michelle Williams's names.
FILM:
They somehow managed to make the comedy nominations even worse than expected. Instead of going indie cause there weren't that many options, let's just double up on the Depp and nominate Kevin Spacey for a movie that is being universally panned. And The Tourist, UGH. Weird that the lack of contenders allowed Jake Gyllenhaal to get his first nomination. I'd also like to add that Alice In Wonderland was one of the biggest pieces of shit I've seen in awhile.
Congrats to Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Mila Kunis, aforementioned Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg on their first noms.
Congrats to Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway on their second.
Congrats to Nicole Kidman on her eighth!
True Grit is the big snubbee of the morning receiving zero noms. I'm expecting it to get 2 or 3 SAG nods on Thursday, so this is only a minor setback.
Inception showing up is nice vengeance for The Dark Knight. Hopefully AMPAS follows suit.
Halle Berry kissed enough ass and gave away enough free tickets to her panned vanity project that they gave her a nomination.
TV:
LOL @ nominees Julia Stiles and Piper Perabo. Are we back in 2001? Jennifer Love Hewitt also got nominated. You stay classy, HFPA.
YAH @ Sofia and Eric. I figured Sofia would get in, but I'm happy that Stonestreet is there as well. Probably the two funniest people on TV right now.
The Walking Dead apparently took over True Blood's horror in drama slot. Woot!
Glad Chris Colfer got in.
I wish Parks and Recreation or Community could get some love. Surprising that they gave a nod to Big Bang Theory as it seemed they never really cared for CBS's comedy lineup. That makes two of us.
I hope Temple Grandin comes to this show too.

First Oscar Presenters Announced
Oscar winners Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry and Marisa Tomei and Oscar nominee Oprah Winfrey have been announced as the first presenters for the Oscars. Good batch. I figured Oprah would be there, I could see her presenting Best Picture. Big year ahead for her. LOL @ Halle - she'll be at the ceremony instead of being nominated for her failed Frankie and Alice. I get the feeling Mo'nique will not be returning to present, so maybe Tomei will sub in for her. No word yet on Christoph Waltz.
Hey, producers, here's some people I'd like to see...
EMMA STONE!
NOOMI RAPACE!
JESSE EISENBERG!
JULIA ROBERTS! (It's been like six years since she's been there!)
GWYNETH PALTROW!
EMILY BLUNT!
MICHAEL FASSBENDER!
JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT!
TOM HARDY!
NEVE CAMPBELL! (lol!)
EMMA WATSON! (really, girl never presents anywhere?)
MICHELLE WILLIAMS!
RYAN GOSLING!
CAPS AND EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!!

Globes Update...
The nominees will be announced by Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood.
LOL - that is really the worst lineup of Globe announcers I've ever seen. Good job, HFPA.
Anywho, major update to my predix in that True Grit's Hailee Steinfeld was placed in leading. So that means...
SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Adams - Carter - Kunis - Leo - Weaver
1st Alt - Weist, 2nd Alt - Hershey
I'm making no change to leading actress - drama.
Apparently, most agreed that Steinfeld being put into supporting was major category fraud. I do wonder where she's been placed at the SAGs and if she can still get an Oscar nomination.

GOLDEN GLOBE PREDICTIONS!
These are kind of tough. I'll do acting first. 2 alternates, since they like to randomly nominate wacky numbers of people.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Amy Adams - The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter - The King's Speech
Melissa Leo - The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld - True Grit
Jacki Weaver - Animal Kingdom
1st Alt: Mila Kunis - Black Swan
2nd Alt: Diane Weist - Rabbit Hole
The first three are safe. Steinfeld, I'm not as sure about. They usually don't like kids here? Weaver is the critics darling but they easily miss here too. Other options: Barbara Hershey or Olivia Williams.
SUPPORTING ACTOR:
Christian Bale - The Fighter
Matt Damon - True Grit
Andrew Garfield - The Social Network
Mark Ruffalo - The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush - The King's Speech
1st Alt - Sam Rockwell - Conviction
2nd Alt - Justin Timberlake - The Social Network
Bale and Rush are safe. I'll go with Damon for starfucking, and that's also why JT is my alt. Bill Murray would be another option. Jeremy Renner, too.
ACTOR - DRAMA:
Jeff Bridges - True Grit
Robert Duvall - Get Low
Jesse Eisenberg - The Social Network
Colin Firth - The King's Speech
James Franco - 127 Hours
1st Alt - Javier Bardem - Biutiful
2nd Alt - Leonardo Dicaprio - Shutter Island
Or Mark Wahlberg. I'd say only Duvall might be on shakey ground. Everyone else can get their publicists to get their 'glad to be nominated' speeches ready. Gosling would be a good alt, but when in doubt, go with the starfucking.
ACTRESS - DRAMA:
Nicole Kidman - Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence - Winter's Bone
Lesley Manville - Another Year
Natalie Portman - Black Swan
Noomi Rapace - Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
1st Alt - Michelle Williams - Blue Valentine
2nd Alt - Naomi Watts - Fair Game
Or Annette Bening (Mother and Child) or Tilda Swinton... I think Tilda is just wishful thinking on part of cinephiles but a lot are predicting her. A lot aren't predicting J.Law on the basis of being in such a small film and it is the type of performance/film that is usually ignored her. However, I think she has the right buzz and the hotness factor going for her. Rapace is my brave prediction for the drama categories.
ACTOR - COMEDY/MUSICAL:
Jim Carrey - I Love You Phillip Morris
Johnny Depp - Alice In Wonderland
Stephen Dorff - Somewhere
Michael Douglas - Solitary Man
Ben Stiller - Greenberg
1st Alt - Jake Gyllenhaal - Love and Other Drugs
2nd Alt - Michael Cera - Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World
And thus we begin the joke that is the comedy category. Slim pickins' here. I'll just leave this one at that. I can't believe Jake has yet to be nominated?
ACTRESS - COMEDY/MUSICAL:
Annette Bening - The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hatahway - Love and Other Drugs
Sally Hawkins - Made in Dagenham
Julianne Moore - The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone - Easy A
1st Alt - Julia Roberts - Eat Pray Love
2nd Alt - Cher - Burlesque
Or Catherine Keener or Rachel McAdams. Ugh, who knows. These are disasters. I admit Stone is 50% going to happen / 50% wishful thinking.
DIRECTING:
Darren Aronofsky - Black Swan
Joel & Ethan Coen - True Grit
David Fincher - The Social Network
Tom Hooper - The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan - Inception
1st Alt - Ben Affleck - The Town
2nd Alt - Danny Boyle - 127 Hours
Or anyone whose film gets nominated in Picture. I'm feeling Inception misses picture but this is their way of throwing it a bone a la Jackson and King Kong.
SCREENPLAY:
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
Rabbit Hole
The Social Network
True Grit
1st Alt - Winter's Bone
2nd Alt - The Town
No idea. Social and King are in. I went with Winter as an alternate just cause they occasionally go with indies here instead of Picture. Though, as you will recall, last year they embarassingly nominated NANNNNNNCY here.
SONG:
127 Hours - "If I Rise"
Burlesque - "You Haven't Seen the Last of ME"
Country Strong - "Me and Tennessee"
Tangled - "I See The Light"
Toy Story 3 - "We Belong Together"
1st Alt - Waiting For Superman - "Shine"
2nd Alt - Eat Pray Love - "Better Days"
Yeah, I'll go with that.
SCORE:
The Ghost Writer
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network
True Grit
1st Alt - Never Let Me Go
2nd Alt - 127 Hours
Yeah, see above.
ANIMATED FEATURE:
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist

1st Alt - Shrek Forever After
2nd Alt - Megamind
Bleh.
COMEDY/MUSICAL FILM:
Alice In Wonderland

Somewhere
1st Alt - Easy A
2nd Alt - Made in Dagenham
So no idea if Dagenham is still in comedy/musical. Red could show up here. Basically, anything that was a comedy could show up here (Date Night, The Other Guys, etc) or even Burlesque. Bleh, what an awful category.
DRAMA - FILM:
Black Swan
The Fighter
The King's Speech
The Social Network
True Grit
1st Alt - The Town
2nd Alt - 127 Hours
Or Inception, Winter's Bone, or whatever. I think given Black Swan's showing everywhere else it shouldn't have trouble.
So there. :-)
As for TV, I hope Amy Poehler can get a nomination. And Community and Modern Family.

BFCA & AFI, Black Swan Soars
I guess swans don't soar, though? Swan Glides Gracefully, perhaps. Between the box-office (which I maintain will die once it hits wide release) and these mentions, its the IT movie right now.
The Kids Are All Right, meanwhile, is losing steam. No major critics awards thus far and missing BFCA top 10 isn't promising. However, this will be an up and down week for many contenders. With major announcements daily, we'll have to wait till the smoke clears to see what is still hanging on.
(oh, when these were announced, the BFCA put on their website a picture of Destiny's Child's Michelle Williams instead of Dawson's Creek's Michelle - good job guys)
(oh#2 - i'd like to say i called Noomi Rapace back in August - so boo yah!)

Oscar Predix (1st of 3) Pre-Everything Major
Since the BFCA, Golden Globes and SAG announce their noms in the next week, I decided to do some Oscar dix. I'll do Globe and SAG dix the night before they announce. Many of the critics groups are currently announcing, and I won't be posting every last one. Who really needs to know what the New Jersey Critics Circle Association has chosen for breakthrough performance by an actor under the age of 12? My second set of Oscar predictions will probably be after the major guilds announce, and the third in the days before Oscar nominations are announced.

Box Office: Angelina adopts the Narnia kids
1. Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader - $42m / $42m / $160m
2. The Tourist - $18m / $18m / $55m
3. Tangled - $12.5m / $113m / $170m
4. Harry Potter - $9m / $257.5m / $290m
5. Unstoppable - $3.5m / $73.5m / $85m
6. Burlesque - $3.4m / $32m / $40m
7. Love and Other Drugs - $3m / $27.5m / $35m
8. Megamind - $2.8m / $140m / $150m
9. Black Swan - $2.3m / $4.5m / $35m
10. Due Date - $2m / $94m / $100
Despite the massive drops last weekend, holiday legs are about to kick in. The new Narnia movie will outgross the last one, due to 3D and being closer to the holidays. I'm still shocked this was actually made. Black Swan, in just about 60 theatres this weekend, will enter the top 10. However, this is the type of movie that mainstream audiences hate with a passion. Once it expands to over a thousand theatres Christmas weekend, it will probably have its best days behind it. Lastly, the Depp-Jolie starrer hits and won't even be screened for critics. Ouch. I know that is more common nowadays, but what's the last major star vehicle that arrived with no reviews? Sony was having a decent year and will have the Best Picture winner in the form of Social Network, but between Tourist and next week's likely bomb How Do You Know, they won't be having a merry Christmas.

Thoughts:
As aforementioned, The Social Network will probably sweep the critics awards. And Winter's Bone continues to get mentions. I do wonder how many 'Breakthrough' Awards Jennifer will be given, as opposed to winning Best Actress. It's an easy, if old, way of giving two actresses the Best award. Manville AND Weaver is a surprise, as this group usually prefers to fill its party with easily recognized celebs. The major shocks were the total snubbings of Black Swan and 127 Hours (both Fox Searchlight), The Kids Are All Right and Rabbit Hole. Kids and Swan both seemed up their alley given their queer leanings. And Buried getting screenplay? And no male breakthrough. Other than that, this was NBR as usual: Eastwood gets thrown a bone and films from Warner Bros pervade the list. 4 of their top films are from the studio.
As far as the Oscar race, Manville is now, well, I won't say locked. But she's close to it. The past 20 Best Actress winners from NBR have all gotten Oscar nominations. The Best Actress race looks to be Bening, Kidman, Lawrence, Manville and Portman. The remaining acting categories are a bit more fluid.

Go The Last Exorcism. Yeah @ Nicole getting recognized here. Happy for Please Give getting the Altman award. These are unusually consistent? The only shock might be no Julianne Moore. But they seem to really love Michelle Williams. I think this is her 5th nomination.

Winter's Bone is looking like the indie of the year, besting The Kids Are All Right, Get Low and Black Swan. Nice surprise.
And here are the genius nominees for the Satellites. They are no longer the Golden Satellites. More or less, if you were in a film this year, you were nominated. I think my name might even be on there?
Award Season '10 continues tomorrow with the National Board of Review. They love Warner Brothers and Clint Eastwood and veteran actresses.
