Bigelow wins the DGA!

Despite Avatar taking the international box office crown and doing so domestically at some point this week, it's award season run is losing steam. I think it peaked at the Globes. With the Basterds taking the SAG and Hurt Locker getting two guilds (probably 3 when taking into account the upcoming WGA), say goodbye to your king of the world status.

DGA winners:

Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker
TV Movie: Taking Chance
Television Series: Mad Men
Comedy Series: Modern Family
Documentary - The Cove
Musical/Variety - Obama Inauguration
Reality TV - Build it Bigger

I'm jealous of Kathryn and her two trophies. :-P

Devil Wears Prada reunion on Oscar morning?

Anne Hathaway will announce the noms.

Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci are expected nominees.

Emily Blunt is a potential spoiler nominee.

SAG Award Predictions

Airing Saturday January 23rd on TNT & TBS at 8PM Eastern. Red carpet special starts half hour before.

Scheduled presenters:

Christina Applegate, Simon Baker, Alec Baldwin, Benjamin Bratt, Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Jenna Fischer, Morgan Freeman, Brian Geraghty, Jon Hamm, Kate Hudson, Felicity Huffman, Anna Kendrick, Nicole Kidman, Diane Kruger, Jane Lynch, Anthony Mackie, Helen Mirren, Michelle Monaghan, Mo'nique, Carey Mulligan, Chris O'Donnell, Anna Paquin, Jeremy Renner, Ray Romano, Kyra Sedgwick, Gabourey Sidibe, Meryl Streep, Justin Timberlake, Stanley Tucci, Christoph Waltz and Sigourney Weaver

TV Predix:

Ensemble Drama - Mad Men
Actor - Drama - Michael C. Hall, Dexter
Actress - Drama - Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
Emsemble Comedy - Glee
Actor - Comedy - Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Actress - Comedy - Toni Collette, The United States of Tara
Actor - TV Movie/Miniseries - Kevin Bacon, Taking Chance
Actress - TV Movie/Minseries - Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens

Film:

Supporting Actor - Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
Supporting Actress - Mo'nique, Precious

Those two are 99.9% locked.

Lead Actor - Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart

Might lose to Clooney due to the film not being seen by guild's membership.

Lead Actress - Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side

If Streep wins, it's smooth sailing to Oscar. But since she won last year, I think the voters will reward Bullock for having such a great year. (Not including All About Steve)

Ensemble - Inglourious Basterds

Precious could easily take it. It has a primarily American cast that is diverse. The problem is that, outside of Mo' and Sidibe, most of the roles are small or played by musicians. I give Basterds the edge given it has a larger ensemble cast, and the surprise nod for Kruger might be telling of its support. However, it is also an international cast, and that might hurt it a bit. If Hurt Locker can pull off an upset here, I'll go ahead and say it wins Best Picture at the Oscars.

The SAG awards are usually pretty boring. I thought they were kinda fun last year because of Meryl Streep's The Price Is Right entrance when she won.

BAFTA Noms

The British Academy of Film and Televion Arts have announced the nominees for their awards, which will be held February 21st.

Their noms are pretty bad this year. No Basterds in Pic? Audrey? The Hangover? Ugh, supporting actress is going to be hard to predict for the Oscars. And Kristen Stewart as a Rising Star? I actually think her career has more or less seen its better days as people will soon realize how minimal her talent actually is.

On the other hand, go DISTRICT 9!

Globe Thoughts:

These were pretty awful, I thought?

Maybe not awful, but the actual show was pretty boring. Which is odd for the Globes. And interestingly enough, I'd much rather watch the Critics Choice awards again. Yes, they were an awful trainwreck. I'd say that is sometimes better than just a dull, boring show.

Don't get me started on Cameron beating Bigelow. Total joke. There were a lot of unexpected winners, and most of the people who beat them may have slightly deserved the award, but didn't deserve to beat out who they beat out. Make sense? I love Chloe Sevigny. But OVER JANE LYNCH? I can't believe Avatar actually won. BUT THE HANGOVER???????

WHAT THE FUCK.

Talk about a totally mediocre movie only becoming a huge hit because a bunch of dumbass frat boys hi-fived each other coming out of the theatre.

AND OVER (500) DAYS OF SUMMER???????

We're in trouble when the best part of the evening was Julia Roberts drunk on the NBC pre-show. LOL That was my fave part of the night. It was like Tom Hanks had to prop her up. Love ya, Julia! "Who's Natalie?" "Your network's in the toilet right now!" Ugh, stupid Billy Bush. What an assclown running though all those people trying to stop them when they just want to get inside cuz they are wet.

Ricky Gervais wasn't used nearly enough. Everytime he came out, I though "oh', that's right, he's hosting." His introduction to Mel Gibson was fucking hilarious, and I have to give Mel props for being a good sport. Even if he's one of the people I despise the most in this world.

No really memorable speeches, the only ones I really liked being Martin Scorsese's and Mo'nique's. Everyone else just listed names and only showed some slight emotion. Drew Barrymore was sort of a wonderful trainwreck, and she was clearly moved. I liked Meryl, but she sort of rambled.

I did love Nicole giving the award to Mo'nique. And to all the haters who have bashed Kidman's appearance the past couple of years, she looked absolutely amazing. Not frozen. Not puffy. Simple and elegant.

More randomness:

Christoph Waltz needs to stop turning his speech into a play on the name of the award show. So I guess this weekend I'm going to hear about how his heart is SAGging because it is so full of love and respect for his Basterds comrads.

Emily Blunt was either in the center of the room or is some kind of stalker. Everytime the camera cut to someone, I swear Emily was right behind them.

Amy Adams was sitting with Kate Winslet. I don't know why that's worth noting, but I felt it imperative to point out.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt seemed really happy.

Brendan Fraser was really drunk. And there for no reason.

I really liked when Maggie Gyllenhaal just appeared on stage. Then she talked about Haiti. I'm not sure if this was planned.

Harrison Ford is apparently miserable.

I want to bone Sam Worthington SO. BAD.

Jeremy Renner really loves Kathryn Bigelow.

So aftershow...

Meryl Streep was in the press room saying FUCK FUCK FUCK. LOL E! coule barely bleep it.

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard were talking about how much they love Michael Haneke to one of the E! reporters, who clearly had no idea what they were talking about. To be fair, they probably could have stated any director and E! would have no clue. BUT OMG WHAT ARE THE KARDASHIANS DOING RIGHT NOW? Ugh, I hate that I had to mention that awful famewhore of a family on my blog.

I'll work on my best dressed list for later.

GOLDEN GLOBE DIX!

Predictions for the Globes.

List of nominees here.

Film - Drama:
Up in the Air

(alt - The Hurt Locker)
UITA needs this to stay ahead of everyone. THL got the noms it needed here to possibly win, but the movie doesn't quite feel like the Hollywood Foreign Press's cup of tea. I'd say that THL and the Basterds have an equal shot of "upsetting". As for Avatar, maybe. May...be.

Film - Comedy/Musical:
(500) Days of Summer

(alt - Julie and Julia)
This feels tough, but sort of easy. Nine has the most noms of films in this category, has big stars and Weinstein backing. But the film is a pretty big flop. It's Complicated will be seen as the lesser of the Streep vehicles, while The Hangover made a lot of money and should be content with that. So I think Julie and Summer are the only viable winners, with the latter being the only nominee here to actually have big fans.

Director:
Kathryn Bigelow - The Hurt Locker

(alt - James Cameron - Avatar)
I think this is more or less a done deal.

Screenplay:
Up in the Air

(alt - Inglourious Basterds)
Those two are very close. I gave it to Up on the basis that it will need another win besides Picture. LOL @ Nancy.

Actor - Drama:
Jeff Bridges - Crazy Heart

(alt - George Clooney - Up in the Air)
They might starfuck and go with Gorgeous George, but I think Bridges has the buzz.

Actress - Drama:
Sandra Bullock - The Blind Side

(alt - Carey Mulligan - An Education)
I originally predicted Mulligan to take it. This is the year of Bullock, apparently. So she gets it. Looking forward to her speech.

Actor - Comedy/Musical:
Matt Damon - The Informant

(alt - Joseph Gordon Levitt - (500) Days of Summer)
I'm not sold on this one. Probably the toughest to predict of the big categories as there is no real favorite and almost everyone seems to have "just barely been nominated". I went with Damon cuz he's nom'd elsewhere, and they'll want to give him something. Right?

Actress - Comedy/Musical:
Meryl Streep - Julie and Julia.

(no alt.)
No commentary. This is sewn up.

Supporting Actor:
Christoph Waltz - Inglourious Basterds

(alt - Woody Harrelson - The Messenger)
Fairly easy.

Supporting Actress:
Mo'nique - Precious

(alt - Anna Kendrick - Up in the Air)
I'm more confident in Waltz winning than I am in Mo'nique. That being said, I don't really see anyone other than her winning, unless people really dislike her as much as some stupid Oscar pundits would like them to.

Animated Feature:
Up

(alt - Fantastic Mr. Fox)
The Fox really wants to bite those balloons. But it'll float.

Original Song:
"The Weary Kind" - Crazy Heart

(alt - "I See You" - Avatar)
This is kinda tough to predict, with Bono and McCartney in the mix. That Ryan Bingham guy is hot, so I'll hold out for him.

Original Score:
Up

(alt - Avatar)
They'll want to give Avatar something, right? I think Giacchino is overdue.

Foriegn Language Film:
The White Ribbon

(alt - A Prophet)
I guess Pedro should be in the running, but I think Haneke has the win.

TV!!!!!

Drama Series:
True Blood

(alt - Mad Men)
They love Mad Men, but True Blood's hype is hard to ignore.

Musical/Comedy Series:
Glee

(alt - Modern Family)
30 and Office are over when it comes to awards. Glee's 4 noms shows big support and has the most hype, even if Modern has more acclaim. Oh, and why the fuck is Entourage still being nominated?

Actress - Drama:
Julianna Margulies - The Good Wife

(alt - Glenn Close - Damages)
I'd say January is the alt, but no one's gonna vote for her after her SNL appearance.

Actress - Comedy/Musical:
Toni Collette - The United States of Tara

(alt - Edie Falco - Nurse Jackie)
Feels like Tara aired forever ago and may be forgotten. I'd love to see Courteney win. Last year's winner, Fey, actually feels like she has the weakest shot, and the Globes could always go with the newbie and award Lea. Very good category. Would be a great one had it not been for the inexcuseable snub of Amy Poehler. WTF?

Actor - Drama:
Simon Baker - The Mentalist

(alt - Hugh Laurie - House)
Cuz they really love House.

Actor - Comedy/Musical:
Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock

(alt - Thomas Jane - Hung)
I guess.

Mini-Series/TV Movie:
Grey Gardens

(alt - Into the Storm)
The Beals, darling.

Actor - Mini-Series/TV Movie:
Brendan Gleeson - Into the Storm

I couldn't care less about this category, but I've always enjoyed Brendan. So I choose him.

Actress - Mini-series/TV Movie:
Drew Barrymore - Grey Gardens

Either her or Lange will make me happy. Lange has one of these, Drew doesn't.

Supporting Actor - All TV:
Neil Patrick Harris - How I Met Your Mother

(alt - John Lithgow - Dexter)
LOL Didn't they realize Jeremy Piven is over.

Supporting Actress - All TV:
Jane Lynch - Glee

(alt - Janet McTeer - Into the Storm)
God, I WILL DIE WHEN JANE WINS. LOVE HER SO MUCH! I think she has this locked up.

Anywho, that's that.

Pics!

It's sad that this will probably be the best moment of this award season and it had to happen at the Critics Choice Awards.

LOL at Bradley Cooper trying to be happy about chicks kissing in front of him.

BFCA TRAINWRECK OF HURT - THE CRITICS CHOICE AWARDS

If you've never had the pleasure of watching an award show with me, well....

I typed this as the Critics Choice Awards were occuring:

Red Carpet:

+Saoirse Ronan looks all grown up. And GORGEOUS!
+Marion Cotillard is so charming but her look is a big MISS.
+Anna Kendrick has hair extentions.
+Zachary Quinto looks SO HOT.
+Zoe Saldana better be at the Oscars. I think she'll be the best dressed of the season. Just lovely.
+Mo'nique's attitude regarding award season has been a breath of fresh air. Go girl!
+Julianne Moore is a fashionista.
+JOHN KRASINSKI AND EMILY BLUNT!!!!

Overall, I'm surprised that the fashions were a lot more interesting than I expected. Lots of risk-taking. Go ladies!

LOL - They are really beating us over the head with this "these films go on to win OSCARS!"

THE SHOW:

Ugh, this is a trainwreck already.

"Brace yourself, this is gonna hurt." Really, Chenoweth.

+It's nice to see Heather Graham back, oddly enough.
+And there goes any goodwill for her and Ed Helms. God, this is the WORST banter I've ever heard.
+THE BASTERDS TAKE ENSEMBLE.
+Eli Roth looks hot. I'd hate-fuck him so hard.
+Vera Farmiga, in the audience, looks like Gillian Anderson.
+LOL The audience isn't even trying to look interested in Chenoweth.
+I actually love the idea of the lighting of the tables for each nominated film.
+LOL Chenoweth should just sing everything.
+Tobey Maguire looks stoned
+GO MO GO!!!! Marion Cotillard looked so happy when Mo' won.
+MONIQUE TAKES SUPPORTING ACTRESS! Solid speech.
+Chenoweth as a smurf auditioning for Avatar. Oh holy god.
+JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT!!!!! Yum.
+I can't believe the actors agreed to participate in these sketches.
+AVATAR wins action film.
+UP wins animated film.
+OK. Just when we thought Chenoweth was the most annoying thing on stage, along comes Nick Jonas.
+Now she's doing Lovely Bones and Orphan. Ugh. See, Chenoweth is talented, but this is just so bad its dragging her down.
+Saoirse is sooo not amused with Chenoweth.
+Josh Duhamel and Kristen Bell are cute together, but, you know, awful material.
+The young actor clips are awful. Total camp. GO SAOIRSE!!!!!
+The little girl from Brothers seemed genuintely happy.
+KRASINSKI AND POEHLER DO A TRIBUTE TO JOHN HUGHES. Ok, that intro was awful. Especially when they cut to random actors. Vera and Meryl looked really bored. But the clip package was actually decent.
+And now Death Cab for Cutie ruins it.
+EMILY BLUNT!!!!!

+I started drinking to get through this.

+Wow, Emily Blunt's intro for Supporting Actor wasn't bad.
+MATT DAMON IN RUGBY SHORTS!!!!
+CHRISTOPH WALTZ WON!!!! He is so humble, and clearly moved. (He must not realize how awful this show is.)
+If this doesn't kill Chenoweth's career.....

+I'm going to be drunk probably. Typing Vera Farmiga won't be easy.

+Sarah Silverman and Adam Lambert. Sarah starts talking about penises and Sandra is hugging the kid from the Blind Side. Nice.
+The Hangover wins Comedy Movie. For some reason unbeknownst to me.

+Ad for Valentine's Day. Topher Grace shirtless. Julia and Anne smile. All might be right with the world.

+Zac Efron and Zoe Saldana. Ugh, Zoe is perfection.
+BEST SONG goes to CRAZY HEART!
+Ok, T Bone Burnett and James Cameron look switched at birth.
+Ryan Bingham is hot.
+Abbie Cornish dress is so bland and is exactly the type of fashion I'd expect from this award show. Her shoes are killer though. Jason Bateman is sporting some kind of awful beard.
+THE COVE takes DOC.

+I'm already mistyping things. Damn you, alcholol! Vera Farmiga. Vera Farmiga. Very farm guy?

+WTF "How many of you are afraid of watching this movie?" Nice job, documentary guy.

+Chenoweth now parodies (?) Up.
+Craig Robinson and Rob Cordry are presenters. They are covering awards that have not aired. AVATAR won alot.
+Now Chenoweth is harassing Jeremy Renner again. He looks so embarassed!
+DAMN CLAIRE DANES LOOKS SMOKING, despite a semi-bland dress. And she's with Quinto, he is hot.
+Actually, on second thought, Danes doesn't look that great. Kinda like Cameron Diaz's younger slutty sister. Must be the alcohol.
+UP IN THE AIR takes ADAPTED SCREENPLAY.

+Awards not aired (lucky them):
TV Movie: Grey Gardens
Foreign Language Film: Broken Embraces
Score: Up
Costume Design: The Young Victoria
Art Direction: Avatar
Visual Effects: Avatar
Sound: Avatar
Cinematography: Avatar
Editing: Avatar

+ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - TARANTINO!!!!!!!!
+God damn, how is Kathryn Bigelow almost 60? She doesn't look a day over 40.
+Diane Kruger is sorta cool. Hopefully she's done with that National Treasure shit.
+And Nick Jonas shits up the place again.
+And I'm drinking a rum and coke.
+Who is Anna Kendrick's adorkable boyfriend?
+Meryl Streep presents some kind of lifetime award to Kevin Bacon. Ummm, okay?
+SAMUEL L.! LOL ON A FUCKIN PLANE!
+I REALLY HOPE BIGELOW WINS DIRECTING!
+AND SHE FUCKING DOES!
STANDING OVATION.

HERE YOU GO MOTHER FUCKERS! FIRST WOMAN TO WIN THE OSCAR FOR BEST DIRECTOR!
AGAIN, HOW IS SHE ALMOST 60?

+Vera Farmiga (HAH! TAKE THAT RUM & COKE) presents Actor? Ummm. Bias?
+CRAZY HEART JEFF BRIDGES!!!! LOVE HIM SO MUCH. ANOTHER STANDING O!!!!
+OK HE'S DRUNK!!!
+LOL DIANE KRUGER is stuffing her face at the Basterds table.
I'm so ecstatic for Bridges and Bigelow even if I haven't seen their movies

ACTRESS AND PICTURE LEFT.
YUMMMMM BRADLEY COOPER. But I like him more with scruff.
+ACTRESS IS......A TIE!!!
(AGAIN!)
MERYL STREEP &
(aww. krasinski kissed blunt right before brad read the winner)
OH MERYL! UGH, THERE REALLY IS NO ONE BETTER.
"I love food and I love sex."
THE OTHER ONE IS SANDRA BULLOCK!!!!!!
OH FUCK. THE OSCARS ARE SCREWED.
Shit, Carey Mulligan looked sad?

OMG!
BEST AWARD SHOW MOMENT EVER!!!!!!!
SANDRA: THIS IS BULLSHIT.
Then circled Streep.
Then tried to french her.

Wow, Mulligan still looks sad.

BUT BLUNT IS SO HAPPY!

See, the interaction between Sandra & Meryl is just proof how great and genuine people they are.

OKAY. I sorta want Sandra to win the Oscar now cuz her speech would be epic.
LOL SUSAN SARANDON. LOOKING AMAZING.
THE BEST PICTURE MONTAGE IS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD?

THE HURT LOCKER TAKES PICTURE
WOAH!

AND JEREMY RENNER IS MY AWARD SEASON BOYFRIEND!!!
AND KATHRYN BIGELOW MY AWARD SEASON GIRLFRIEND?

Awww. Marion looked so happy for them?

Well, that was an awful trainwreck but the last half hour wasn't too bad.

Suggest Presenters

The Golden Globes are currently releasing some of their scheduled presenters for their upcoming award show. One of the things I look forward to every year is the list of people who will stroll onstage to give out awards, present clips, ramble on for 2 minutes or introduce other presenters.

Here is the current roster for the Globes:

Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Gerard Butler, Cher, Chace Crawford, Robert De Niro, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo Dicaprio, Colin Farrell, Jodie Foster, Matthew Fox, Jennifer Garner, Mel Gibson, Tom Hanks, Neil Patrick Harris, Nicole Kidman, Sofia Loren, Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Kiefer Sutherland, Kate Winslet and Sam Worthington

I'm guessing that's about half the people that will end up presenting.

For the Oscars this year, may I suggest:

(I liked last year's producers idea that only people who appeared in movies during the previous year should present. And past Oscar winners, of course.)

Meryl Streep. Let her present Best Picture. PLEASE!

Drew Barrymore
Emily Blunt
Bradley Cooper
Sharlto Copely
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Anne Hathaway
Nicole Kidman
Melanie Laurent
Jude Law
Rachel McAdams
Gwyneth Paltrow
Michelle Pfeiffer
Chris Pine
Jeremy Renner
Zoe Saldana
Sam Worthington

and Mariah Carey. Drunk.

And isn't it sort of weird that Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have yet to make an Oscar appearance?

Oh, Sean Penn, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz and either Michael Caine or Morgan Freeman (stepping in for Heath Ledger) as well.

I didn't post most of the last batch of critics awards because mostly the same things won. Now, we're moving on to the guilds! PGA announces Tuesday and DGA announces Thursday I believe.

The PGA extended their list to 10 this year. Keep in mind this is the group that usually honors successful, well reviewed blockbusters amidst the usual Oscar bait.
