This season is crazy! Wahoo. It seems like the SAG nominations came out early this year, and only 2 films released in December are present on their list. Coincidence?

SAG Predix!
Announcing Thursday, this might be the only real award show we get this year. *sigh*
Best Ensemble:
Atonement - Before the Devil Knows You're Dead - Into the Wild - Juno - No Country for Old Men
Alt: Hairspray
I think 3:10 To Yuma will surprise here, but I don't have the balls to predict it.
Male Actor - Leading:
George Clooney - Michael Clayton
Daniel Day Lewis - There Will Be Blood
Johnny Depp - Sweeney Todd
Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises
Denzel Washington - American Gangster
Alt: Frank Langella - Starting Out in the Evening
I think Actor is the category to watch this year. It reminds me of Best Actress 2003 where Theron, Keaton and Watts were locked in and the other 2 spots were up for grabs leading to the slighty-WTF nods for Castle-Hughes and Morton. I'd say Clooney, Day Lewis and Depp are safe. Mortensen keeps appearing and is getting closer to being safe. That last slot is up for grabs. I put Washington and will continue putting him in because he's a vet and there are no real other minorities present in the award season this year. Tom Hanks, maybe, depending on how well Charlie does at the box and with the remaining guilds. I also think one of the young hunks - James McAvoy, Ryan Gosling or Emile Hirsch - will pull the Samantha Morton surprise nod. McAvoy gets the edge being in a Best Picture vehicle. Gosling and Hirsch will no doubt be devastated for not filling the remaininig spot, but if they come to my house, I have two spots they can fill anytime. Such a perverted blog, I know.
Female Actor - Leading:
Amy Adams - Enchanted
Julie Christie - Away From Her
Marion Cotillard - La Vie En Rose
Angelina Jolie - A Mighty Heart
Ellen Page - Juno
Alt: Jodie Foster - The Brave One
Christie, Cotillard, and Page are in. Adams feels right for here even if I think she may be snubbed Oscar morning. Jolie seems to have had a nice revival.
Male Actor - Supporting:
Casey Affleck - The Assassination of Jesse James...
Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men
Philip Seymour Hoffman - Charlie Wilson's War
Hal Holbrook - Into the Wild
John Travolta - Hairspray
Alt: Tom Wilkinson - Michael Clayton
Female Actor - Supporting:
Cate Blanchett - I'm Not There
Catherine Keener - Into the Wild
Saoirse Ronan - Atonement
Amy Ryan - Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton - Michael Clayton
Alt: Jennifer Garner - Juno
Let's hope SAG can get some steam rolling for Leslie Mann.

GOLDEN GLOBE PREDICTIONS!!!
It's always a headache. I'm never fully confidant. There's things I'd love to go back and change, switch around or drop completely. Same shit, different year.
As usual, the HFPA sometimes nominates 6 things, so I've enclosed 2 alternatives as well as a "No guts, no glory" which won't get me points for my score, rather bragging rights! I'm hoping for some surprise The Bourne Ultimatum love, just so the series could get something.
Ashley Judd, Hayden Panetierre and a currently unannounced third will reveal the nominations Thursday morning around 8AM. I'd really love Miss Judd (or one of the other two) to get to read 'Ashley Judd - Bug.' In fact, that would be the biggest "WAHOO!" of the morning for me, followed closely by 'Leslie Mann - Knocked Up.' Mann could end up being this year's Emily Blunt, we'll see. On a sidenote, I hope they announce all the categories, as last year the first "round" of nominees was announced but not broadcast. I remember everyone freaking out when the rumor hit that Blunt had been nominated but no one heard it directly or could get confirmation till after the list had been posted on the Hollywood Foreign Press's website. Fun times. But I live for this stuff.
(EDIT 12/13 - 11:26PM -- Judd apparently isn't announcing now? Hayden will be joined by Ryan Reynolds, Dane Cook (VOMIT!) and Quentin Tarantino. Could they really not find better people to announce?)

New Trailers: Sex and Emile Hirsch
Ah, to dream...
So I don't know if Speed Racer looks really good or really bad? But I kinda like this trailer. And who knew Christina Ricci could pull off a bob?
And really? Did anyone expect a Sex and The City movie teaser to not actually include something like 'next summer, they're coming' or any play on the word come. But this teaser is honestly heaven. And super gay. And if it doesn't get an Oscar nomination for Costume Design, I'm gonna have to cut a bitch.

National Board of Review for 'Old Men'
I get the feeling this could take everything right up to the Oscar, ending-haters be damned. A very good day for the Affleck clan: Casey, Ben, Jennifer Garner's film and costar, Matt Damon's film and Amy Ryan!

New York, NY – December 5th, 2007 – The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures named NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN the 2007 Best Film of the Year. Directed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, released by Miramax and Paramount Vantage on November 21st, the film is based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel. It simultaneously strips down the American crime drama and broadens its concerns to encompass themes as ancient as the Bible, and as bloodily contemporary as this morning’s headlines.
For Best Actor and Actress of 2007, the NBR honors two artists whose performances were truly outstanding. The 2007 Best Actor, GEORGE CLOONEY, was selected for his performance in the title role of Michael Clayton. For the 2007 Best Actress honor, the NBR has selected JULIE CHRISTIE for her performance in Away From Her.

Trio of actors join Van Sant's Harvey Milk film
It's annoying how most of the headlines for this casting went "Actors got Milk."
I'm so happy for Josh Brolin. What a great year he's having between Grindhouse, American Gangster and No Country for Old Men! Plus, he gets to go home with Diane Lane. Lucky guy. I guess licking Patricia Arquette's armpit in Flirting with Disaster paid off, huh?
Anywho, the only major person yet to cast for this film is Dianne Feinstein. (Marcia Gay Harden would be a good pick.) I'm still skeptical on Sean Penn as I think Robert Downey Jr would've been a great choice. But nevertheless, it's Gus Van Sant. That's reason enough to be excited.
From Comingsoonnet:
Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsch and James Franco are in final negotiations to appear opposite Sean Penn in Gus Van Sant's biopic Milk.
The Focus Features/Groundswell Productions film stars Penn as Harvey Milk, the country's first openly gay elected official, a San Francisco city supervisor who was assassinated in 1978.
Brolin will play Dan White, the rival politician and supervisor who shot Milk and San Francisco Mayor George Moscone to death at City Hall. Hirsch has been cast as gay rights activist Cleve Jones, an intern and close ally of Milk's, who went on to found the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt. Franco will play Scott Smith, Milk's lover and campaign manager.
Principal photography is set to begin in January in San Francisco.
